Chicken Pox Vaccine?

Do they still recommend this? I know it was popular when DD was a toddler but my pedi hasn't mentioned it for DS.

There's a case of c-pox at DS' daycare. Sad

Re: Chicken Pox Vaccine?

  • Both my kids got the vaccine, and I'm assuming they'll offer it for Aubrey. I'm pretty sure they got it at 15 months.

  • It is still recommended, 1 at 12/15 months and another before starting Kindergarten 4/6 years.

Though, if little dude hasn't gotten it, it's not like it's too late or anything.

Pretty sure it's required now in OH and KY for Kindergarten entrance.

  • It has some other fancy name, I didn't realize that it was for chicken pox :)

  • Yes.  It's the devil, though.  The only one DD reacted to.  It was not around when DS was a toddler.  We used to have pox parties back then to expose them before they went to school.  How sad is that?  They have them and O should get one now so he can have his booster at the time that he goes to school.  You don't want to deal with the pox....sucks!

  • It's called Varicella and it's still recommended. Check his immunization record, he might have received it already.

ETA: I guess I should read all the responses before I go posting redundant stuff, huh?

  • I know B got it, I think at 15 months.  One of my fourth graders has it, and her mom was freaking out because they had exposed me, but I had it as a kid.  Apparently the vaccine you get as a baby "runs out" around age 9 or 10, and they don't re up it for a couple of years so it will get you through adulthood, so they're seeing a lot of cases in the 9-10 age range.  This was according to the mom of my student.
