Re: XP: Ergo vs. Beco butterfly II

  • I prefer the Beco.  I have both and think you will probably be happy with either.  I prefer the Beco because it is easier to get her on my back, and it "fits" us better.

When I was trying to decide which I wanted first, the benefits I heard for Ergo were  that breastfeeding was easier because there is no panel of fabric between you and baby and that the Ergo typically fits larger people better.  I'm 5'10'' though, so who knows...

    I think you'll like either.

  • I prefer the Ergo, because the strap on the Beco under the arm rubs me and is uncomfortable to me.  I'm 5'9" and find my Ergo Performance comfortable.  Can you attend a babywearers meeting to try several on?  That is what helped me the most.

  • I agree with PP, the best thing for you to do is try them out for yourself.  I chose the beco for a couple of reasons.  I love how easy it is to do a back carry with the panel.  I live in a hot climate and the infant insert in the ergo would have melted my July baby, beco is much lighter weight.  I'm little  (5'7" 110lbs) and the beco fits me great but my dh can also wear it at 6' 195lbs.

And hands down the beco is much prettier.  :)

this. I do not find the ergo aesthetically pleasing, but I know lots of people who do. I also know that the beco is wide in the shoulders for some people. But it's like toyota vs honda: both are reliable and comfortable and will go the distance, but some people prefer one to the other. You just have to test drive.

  • Thanks for all the advice!  I'll definitely try to take 'em for a test drive :)
