LOL!!! I have done it both ways .... but I would think it depends on how you make your bed. haha. Do you fold the sheet over the top of the comforter?? this is cracking me up.
My husband and I dont make the bed so we cant argue about this one :P
My mom is old school about bed making! I was told that absolutely you have to put the "right" side face down, so that when you fold it over the comforter the "right" side shows at the top. I always do it that way and it bugs me when it;s the other way around (DH!).
Ugh - looks like I'm losing this battle. DH likes the top sheet upside down so that the right sides are facing - I like it the other way around. He actually UNMADE Ryan's bed to "fix" it. Drives me batty since his sheets are flannel and the pattern is only on the top side. Looks terrible IMO.
I don't think I'll show him the results of this poll.
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
I am OCD about linens in general. You don't want to know my methodology for how to properly fold a fitted or a flat sheet. And my crazyness even extends to ironing them if they are too wrinkly out of the dryer - especially the cuffs.
It's right sides together, so that when you turn down the bed the pattered cuff is visable & crisp.
Sorry you're in the minority Donna, but even Woman's Day says so.
Really tho, for the kiddos, who cares. They sure don't. In fact DC refuses to sleep with a top sheet at all, so I don't bother. It's fitted sheets and a loose blanket for him.
Oh, and because I'm so insistant and have remade a bed much like your DH when it isn't to my satisfaction, I am the sole bed maker in the household.
I suggest that if it's so important to him, that he be responsible for the bed making including the laundering. But he's got to keep up on it or he has no right to remake no matter how unsettled his OCD about it may make him.

IF you don't have a comforter (or blanket) to fold the top over, I'd do the printed side up so the pattern shows.
LOL!! I must be the odd-duck here because we don't even use the flat sheets; just a down comforter covered by a duvet (all year long). So much easier to make the bed in the morning.
Heather, don't get me started on towels. I've been known to iron the wrong creases out of those if they aren't folded right. Your Mom is a woman after my own heart.
I'm now hanging my head down in shame to admit that I'll even slap the fitted sheet on inside out just so I don't have to take the time to flip it the right way.
My MIL got into this HUGE debate while putting the sheets on the kids beds. They had patterned character sheets. I put the flat sheet pattern side up with the pattern facing towards the foot of the bed, so if you're looking at the bed, it's going the right way. She insists that you put the flat sheet with the pattern going towards the pillows so that when the kids are in bed and they are looking down, they can see Dora or Tinkerbell's face looking at them but that drives me crazy because when I walk into their rooms, the sheets are upside down.
Seriously.. I never spent much time thinking about sheets.
Re: stupid poll about sheets
I've always done it pattern to pattern, Dan thinks I'm nuts.

Julia, you could be my mother's daughter! She has the same OCD. She is appalled that I don't iron my sheets.
I LOVE IT!!
