6 months post-pregnancy and dip in weight...breastfeeding

My LO is 6 months and I breastfeed. When I was on maternity leave, I had a lingering 10 pounds to lose. Once I went back to work, they were gone within 1-2 months. Probably because I stopped eating so much crap during the day and got more exercise just being out and about. I've been back at my pre-pregnancy weight for a couple months now. But, in the past week, my weight has dipped even lower by a few pounds. I haven't changed anything about the way I am eating. I have noticed a bit of a dip in my supply this past week, too. Any input on why this might be happening or has it happened to anyone else? I wouldn't mind the weight loss, but I do mind a dip in my supply (if the two are related).

  • My sister BF twins and lost an extra 15lbs from her pre pregnancy weight ( and she didn't need to lose any extra) she stopped breastfeeding and she is now almost to her pre pregnancy weight. Her supply was never affected by this.

  • My milk appears to have gotten "fattier" over last few months.  I am also more hungry, so maybe that is it.
  • I have 3 pounds in the last month but I haven't noticed a dip in the milk supply

  • I was always a healthy 5' 6" and 125 lbs since forever. After I quickly hit my pre pregnancy weight, I thought GREAT! ... now I'm down to 115, that's 10 lbs less than I usually am. Honestly I don't feel like it's that healthy for me, but there's nothing I can do. Over Christmas and new year's I ate enough for 3 people for about 2 weeks (including tons of sweets) and gained a measley 3 lbs, which I promptly lost again.

I talked to my midwife about it and she said that my body just may not tolerate the extra calories lost with BF.. maybe because of a high metabolism as well? Anyway, she told me I could add more protein to my diet and see if that helped. Thankfully my supply is still great, but there are things you can eat to help. I think oatmeal is supposed to be good for milk supply.

  • I experienced a dip in weight at around the 5-month mark, and I was already 5 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight at that point.  I was at a healthy weight to begin with so I'm probably too thin right now, but it really hasn't done anything to my supply luckily. I was (and still am) eating a crazy amount of food though, so I'm sure that's helping keep the supply up.
