Jumping on the ?natural induction? bandwagon!

Ok so I didn?t think I would make it to this point since I was admitted at 34 weeks for pre-term labor.  After taking medicine to stop my contractions for 2 weeks and going on leave early, I have successfully made it to 38 weeks as of this coming Saturday.  While in the hospital they gave me steroid shot to develop LO?s lungs just in case the medicine and rest didn?t stop the labor.  According to Dr this shot puts him 2 weeks ahead as far as development is concerned, so basically if he came this weekend he would behave as a 40 week baby would!

Anyway, long story short since I have been expecting him to come ?any day now? for a month, I am ready for him now! and I really want to avoid the possibility of an induction, especially since my Dr is induction-prone from what I hear from the L&D Nurses.

I know all about the sex and walking, so I will be kicking those up a notch! I have Eggplant Parm planned for dinner on Valentine?s Day (this just happened to be a coincidence).  I do think I am avoiding the castor oil thing, I just don?t see much of a point and don?t think my stomach can take it.

But I wanted to get your ladies? opinion on another one that I came across.  Apparently, a glass of wine has been know to induce labor.  I wanted to know how you guys felt about this, and if anyone as tried it?  I know Some Drs say an occasional glass of wine while pregnant is fine, and others say avoid it at all cost.  I am not trying to get drunk or anywhere close to it, and obviously haven?t even made up my mind to drink even the one glass, but thought I would see how other soon-to-be or new moms felt about this. (PS I haven?t had even so much as sip of alcohol my whole pregnancy)

As a bonus, I would probably combine this with my Valentines dinner if I do decide to try it.

Just wondering what you ladies think!

  • I haven't heard of this. I don't think I would try it, but it might work for you. I have heard of drs saying that an occassional glass of wine is ok too. My dr is definitely against drinking any alcohol and I haven't had a sip my whole pregnancy either!

Good luck and let us know what you decide and how it works out!

  • I've never heard of a glass of vino inducing labor..

really, I'd think it's more how relaxed the wine would make you over the actual wine. Maybe you should try lots of things to relax you, like a nice hot bath after your glass of wine?

I have heard its the relaxation thing, so definitely take a bath in conjunction, play some relaxing tunes, light some candles, and just float. Maybe that will help move things along!

  • I remember the woman who taught our childbirth education class talking about a glass of wine, but for some reason I think she was talking about it in early stages of labor, not to bring on labor.  I probably should've taken notes...
  • I also heard that drinking a glass of wine would slow down labor. As in if you are have early contractions have a glass of wine and take a bath.

  • Sorry, but I would not drink wine (evidence is mixed--for some women, even a little has effects on the fetus, even late in pg).

FYI--the Eggplant Parm thing is due to the Oregano/Basil (so be sure to load up on those herbs).

Good luck. ;)  I've been drinking Raspberry leaf tea like a maniac...doing squats, lunges, having sex, and well, trying to live life as normally and relaxed as possible.  He's going to stay put until he wants out. :)

Haha... this!  I went back to my notes and yup - my childbirth class teacher said wine during labor, not to bring it on.

  • I asked my doctor today some other things to help jump start labor, she suggested nipple stimulation.  Also, a friend of mine also suggested acupressure.  Good luck!
