Quick help on note to boss

My lovely boss blew me off when I tried to contact her to inform her of my impending STD. She told me to email her with whatever I needed to talk to her about.

I've been in touch with Occupational Health & informed them of what's up. Should I tell my boss why I'm going on STD or just state that I am? Obviously I wouldn't go into detail, just say its for PPD/mental health. But I guess I'm wondering if I should even divulge that info.

  • I would not.  I've always been told to be as vague as possible when dealing with disability issues.  Also for PPD you'd be divulging mental health status that may affect your job later on.  I'm glad you're getting a break. :)

  • I would not divulge that it's for PPD/Mental Health.  Just follow whatever your STD/company policies are about keeping in touch with your boss throughout your leave, but I would keep that information to yourself.

    (former insurance account manager...I managed disability accounts among other product lines)

  • I agree w/ pps. Don't give your boss any more information than "I will be out on STD until at least March 1st." She can't ask you why.  As long as you're keeping up with your follow up dr. appts & working with Occupational Health you've got nothing to worry about.

    I agree with the others.  You did the right thing.

    Good!  legally they can't ask you what's going on, and it's not like you owe them anything.
