HELP...come in 17P prescription users

Hi ladies,

I was getting my 17P injections at the doctor's office when we were in North Carolina and it was under the brand name Delalutin.  We just moved to Maryland a couple of days ago and the doctor's office here just wrote me a prescription for Delalutin to have filled.  No local pharmacies carry it and can not order it.  I called my insurance (medco) and they can't find it in regular or specialty pharmacies.  ACK!!!

I've been on the phone for hours trying to figure out how to get it.  Is there another brand name?  What is your prescription written as?  Everyone is acting like they've never heard of Delalutin.  I know there have to be others who are getting the shots through a pharmacy.  I just don't know what other name to have them try.  I did try hydroxyprogesterone but it comes up as a powder.  Anyone have any guidance on this for me?

Thanks!

Kim

  • it has to come from a "compounding pharmacy".  you cannot get p17 at "regular pharmacys" like walgreens/cvs..etc.  your MFM would/should know this.

i'm not sure how mine is "written" by my doc. and i've never heard the "brand name" delalutin.  but my bottle says:

"hydroxyprogesterone caporate"  - with instructions to inject 1ml intromusculary weekly

    i hope this helps!

  • Thank you!  That did help and I finally talked with someone who was more helpful.  I kept telling them that I'd need a specialty pharmacy but I think I've gotten it mostly worked out now.  Thanks again for the info!

  • It looks like you were able to make headway but I'll still add what I was originally going to.

"Makena (hydroxyprogesterone caproate) is chemically the same as Delalutin"

The above link describes the trade names of this drug as well as where it's marketed (St. Louis).
