Baby Names

What do you think?

My husband and I have a hard time deciding which names we BOTH like. We have 8 nieces and nephews between the two of us. The ones on his side have more traditional names like Katie and Bradley; and my sister has a daighter named Brelynn and two sons named Houston and Wyatt.  I'm a fan of the less traditional names..  However, we both like the name Lyla Mackenzie for a girl; but I'm not sure which one we should call her.. Any ideas??

  • Call her by her first name, Lyla. It is very pretty and not trendy and over done like her middle name.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • Can I vote for Lyla Brooke? I'm not a fan of McNames.

  • I'm biased, my DD is Mckenzie, but in your case I'd call her by the FN.

  • Lyla Brooke was my original choice because my sister's name is Brooke.  My hubby chose Mackenzie and it was way better than his other choices.. lol :)
  • lyla mackenzie is very pretty. just call her lyla!

  • I don't really get the whole calling your child by their mn (unless fn was only used to honor someone, like to make your son a jr.).  I think Lyla is a beautiful name and I'm not really sure why if you love it enough to make it your dd's fn, you don't love it enough to actually call her that.

I agree with this. If you would like to call her McKenzie I would use that as her first name. Both are pretty names.

  • Definitely call her Lyla. Mackenzie is incredibly trendy, cutesy and IMO, just not that pretty. And there's no reason to call her by her MN. Whichever name you choose to call her, make that her FN.

Oh, and I prefer the spelling Lila.

I too prefer Lila. And if that is going to be her first name, call her by that or if you want to call her Makenzie, give her that as a first name. I don't like the "I go by my middle name" trend either unless it is for a specific purpose.

  • Thank you all for the help.. I know I have plenty of time!! I'm just curious about what everyone thinks of the names!! :)
  • I would definetly call her Lyla. Especially if you're wanting to go a little less traditional. You could also call her both names. Lyla Mackenzie is a pretty name but may be a little too long.
