Just got a call from my docs office saying that my u/s came back as showing the babe had dilated kidneys. She said not to worry right now but that I would be having a follow-up scan in a few weeks.
My DS had this- found it at 20 weeks and went for some follow up ultrasounds, then he had ultrasounds after he was born. It ended up being kind-of a non-issue because it resolved itself before he turned one, although he did have to have the dye test (they flushed dye through with a catheter to make sure he didn't have reflux) which was not a good time for either of us. It's very common in baby boys but also happens in girls and from what I understand most of the time it resolves itself.

Good luck and try not to worry!
We weren't diagnosed until after birth. The dye test is called a VCUG, and it tests for VUR - reflux of urine up the ureters back into the kidneys. DS had his pacifier dipped in sweetEase before they did the procedure so it was a breeze.
My DS is just over one year old and still has a slight right kidney dilation. He was born with both kidneys dilated (called hydronephrosis). Anyways, we continue to follow up with the urologist on 6-8 month intervals. When it's severe it may require surgical intervention, but most cases resolve in their own time.
We just had our ultrasound and follow up with the urologist yesterday. It's funny to me that the renal specialists (kidney specialists) don't classify it as dilated, but the urologist does. If it's not resolved by the next visit in August, we're requesting a transfer to Renal.
Sounds like they have you covered. My best friend's son had this, but after birth it did not resolve. They saw one of the top doc in Cincy and he said 90% of cases resolve themselves and have NO ISSUES.
Most likely shouldn't be an issue but if it continues, gets worse or whatever after birth message me and I can tell you what they had to do. He is a healthy happy 3 year old though, so no worries!
Momma to Ms. C age 16 months and Mr. C age 3 months!
We are in the same boat right now. I just had my follow up at 23w 2d and no change yet... still mild dilation. The doctors seem very unconcerned and have told me this is very common. Also - I understand its scary when you just find out because you just want everything to be perfect. I have had a month to process everything at this point and I really do now think everything will be fine. We may have some additional testing after birth if it doesn't clear up by the third trimester but from what I can tell it takes a severe dilation to require surgery.
Finally - after spending some time discussing it with family and friends I can't believe how common it is! As soon as I brought it up, I had a handful of people in my life tell me they had been down this same road. That helped me put it in perspective.
This is why I love this board! I am comforted in knowing that this is such a common thing and that though there are some very poor outcomes, most have been pretty positive. This will allow me to not worry myself sick over the next few weeks and realize that this could be nothing at all. I'll just deal with it as it comes.
Ladies, thank you! I will follow up in a few weeks after we have our follow-up scan.
