Parenting after 35

Intro :-)

Hello everyone.. My name is Traci and I am 38 and just had my 2nd LO. My DH and I have been married for 2 1/2 years. DD was born on 11/23 and is 11 wks old today. I have a DD from a previous marriage who is 7. DH has 2 kids (14 boy and 13 girl from a previous marriage). We also have 3 dogs and 1 huge cat. Our LO was an oopsie. We found out we were pg 2 weeks after my mom passed away on March 31st. So Caroline was our blessing from her. It has been an adjustment to get used to another little one around the house again. So far things have been good. The pg was ROUGH. I guess it was my body saying I was too old. I had a short cervix, PTL and GD. Delivery was also rough, Water broke at 230pm and I had her all natural (not by choice) at 451pm. Luckily it went quick. Just wanted to drop in and say hello.

Re: Intro :-)

  • Hi, and welcome!

Mine was quick and natural too,  from water breaking to delivery, 4PM to 6:40PM.  It hurt like a &E^%&*%&*)$.  I also had PTL as well, but other than that my pregnancy was pretty easy.

I'm Amy, we have three catmonsters, and I'll be 43 in a couple of weeks.  :)

  • Welcome. My daughter is Caroline also. That's where the similarity ends apparently- our labor/births sound completely opposite. Glad you got a quick one!

  • Welcome!! I'm sorry about your mom and your difficult pregnancy and delivery. But you are NOT old, b/c then I would be ancient, lol (I'm 40). I got pg with Adrian at 38 and delivered him at 39. Luckily everything went smoothly, although now I am tired all the time, so I definitely think having him in my early 30s would have been better energy-wise. But I'm thinking about baby #2, so yep, I'm crazy :)

  • Thanks to all the welcomings.. I do believe Caroline is a special blessing from Mom. I did leave out in my intro a few little tidbits, that we named her after my mom also.. Mom's name was Carol. We also had a very special visit from Mom on Christmas morning also. You have to be a believer. It was early, early in the morning. My DH has just fed Caroline and had her laying on the couch watching TV. He had stepped outside for a few minutes. When he came back inside, the TV was off. We had a Christmas carousel that had lights on it and spun around and it was sitting on the mantel, well it was on and playing music.. and Caroline was flipped on her other side facing the back of the couch. We just figured it was "granma" holding her grandaughter for the first time. When DH told me about it when I got up, I just cried and cried. I know Mom gave me Caroline to replace not having her anymore, but I sure do miss her.  It so hard to not have her around, since I lost her at such a young age. She was only 61.
