TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Progesterone Issues

Major TMI warning. I started taking pro vaginally on Saturday. I have terrible itching about 30 minutes after taking it. It lasts a few hours then goes away. Only to return the next time. It couldn't be a YI could it? Allergic reaction? I do have allergies, especially skin ones. I know I need to call, but the RE or pharmacy? Any help?

Re: Progesterone Issues

  • I would say it sounds like an allergy to your supplement. If it was a YI, it would be there all of the time, not just around supplement time. So I say call the RE- maybe there is another supplement. I want to say, I remember someone having a reaction to a certain type of progesterone. Good luck!

  • I am sorry I have no experience with that, but it sounds like it could be an allergic reaction.  Or maybe that is just normal for supps.  I know it can cause a build up inside (sorry - tmi) but after only a couple of days I wouldn't think so yet.  Sorry, I am clueless - I hope it's not a big deal, but it certainly sounds unpleasant to say the least.

  • I would call the RE, sounds like maybe an allergic reaction. I take progesterone injections and I know some people can't take the progesterone in sesame oil due to allergies so it may be something similiar to that.

  • Ditto everyone else:

Doesn't sound like a YI. Could be an allergic reaction. Could also just be a 'sensitivity' issue. Either way I'd call the RE and see what their thoughts are about switching to a different med and what the cost would be to do that.

Sorry hon. I know those vag sup. are no fun and then to have this on top of everything sucks even worse.

Hope the RE has a solution.

  • I had the same thing, and they told me it was just one of the s/e. I think you should call your RE and run it by them, to be on the safe side - you don't want to let a possible allergy go on for too long - but I did have pretty gnarly itching and it turned out to just be part of the fun.

    Sorry, love, that sucks.

  • I called the RE.  The nurse sounded like it was the strangest thing and she had never heard of that happening before :sigh:  The RE said I could take it orally though and that should still be fine.

I hope that is the solution!

  • I'm glad your RE had a different suggestion. I hope that does the trick!

  • Are you taking prometrium? When I did, I had a horrible reaction, like you talked about.  I also had a lot of spotting while on it.  They switched me to crinone and the awful itching stopped immediately.

  • I hope taking it orally is much better.  The itching does not sound like fun at all.

  • You could be allergic, like ppl said.  I would talk to the Dr.  There are alternative to prometrium, like endometrium which isn't coated in soy like prometrium is.
