Pregnant after IF

Tired of my ER stories? :(

I know I am tired of them :-[

Last night I started to have pain, I couldn't really describe the pain and it wasn't terrible so I thought maybe it was just bad gas or constipation.

As the night progressed and into the morning the pain got worse and worse and localized to a specific area on my right side below the babies.

I had an Ob check in at 11:30 but my doctor is on vacation. The doctor I saw was an ass. I was basically in tears and she totally dismissed me and said the babies and my cervix look fine and sent me on my way.

The pain continued to increase until finally I called DH crying. He knows it takes a lot of pain to make me cry so he left work and came and took me to the ER.

Everyone thought I had appendicitis. After an u/s and cat scan the realized I had a large fibroid that had twisted and was right on top of my appendix. When they twist they no longer have blood flow. Good because it causes them to start to "die". Bad because it is an extremely painful process. Normally with one my size 60mmx60mm they would remove it surgically. The problem is that the area that it is attached to is less than 1cm from one of the babies placentas. Very dangerous procedure.

So far now I have a very powerful anti-inflammatory, tylenol 3 and vicodin. I have to call Stanford (my MFM/ob) first thing tomorrow and make sure this is the plan of action they think is best.

So pissed that the doctor this morning dismissed me. Also, how did no one notice this when I have had 13 u/s???

Luckily, baby bears do not seem phased by everything for now.

Re: Tired of my ER stories? :(

  • I'm so sorry you had to go back to the ER last night. It sounds very painful!  I would deffinitly tell your regular OB that the doctor you saw in the morning just dismissed you.  I normally find on call or stand in Doctors aren't as good and don't care as much because they aren't your regular Dr.

Hang in there, let us know what they say this morning when you talk to your MFM/OB.

  • You poor thing! I'm so sorry you are going through this. I can't even imagine the pain you must be in right now. Ditto Cara on mentioning what happened to your regular OB. That was very wrong of the doctor you saw. What a b*tch. I feel bad you had to deal with that on top of your horrible pains. Hang in there sweetie and get some rest. I hope this fibroid clears up quickly!

  • OMG! Hon, you are no longer allowed in the ER!

That is strange that they couldn't see the fibroid in the ultrasound before. You'd think they would have found it before you started your IVF cycle.  I know sometimes though, fibroids can start off really small and grow larger b/c of all the pregnancy horomones.

I'm sorry you are in pain, but glad your LOs are doing well.

Btw - after your food poisoning scare, I realized that we literally must live like 5 miles from each other.  We'll have to play date when our LOs get here :)

We did know about one before IVF but it was not this big and I was told it was in a location where it would never cause a problem.  I assume it is the same one.  The ER doctor said pregnancy can cause them to grow.

We will have to have play dates!     Legaleagles and I had lunch together a few weeks ago.  I will let you know next time we are going.
