I am trying to get back in shape and really only have time before work during the week. 5 am is early and it's cold and dark out so my motivation is next to nothing. Any tips on ways to drag my butt out of bed to go for a morning run?
5am is brutally early! I've never been successful in working out in the morning, even in the summer. Interested in seeing what the other posts say. Possibly work out indoors in the am on an exercise ball, push-ups, sit-ups and save the outdoor workouts for the weekend?
Do you have something tangible that you are working toward?
I register for a lot of races, and it made it easier for me to get up early to work out.
Perhaps a subtle reminder of your goal like as cute dress or swimsuit with help you get into a routine. The first couple days are the hardest. However, by the second week, your body will be used to the habit of getting up.
Do you have a treadmill and a TV? I get up at 5 to run on the treadmill and I set up a TV and DVD player so I can rent box sets from the library to watch while I run-- right now I am on season 2 of Lost (never watched it when it was on) and I jog one episode every morning. They are 45 minutes long, so it is perfect, and I am getting really into it! I also rent redbox movies DH would NEVER want to see, like Dear John or something like that. I mean not that TV is a huge motivator to get me running but it helps pass the time and I look forward to watching TV in a way because I NEVER have time to do so and it seems sort of nice!

No treadmill, but I live in so cal so other than it being dark the weather is decent at 5 am. I tried today to get up but he snooze button magically popped on. DS was up at 1 am so I'm just tired. There is always tomorrow!

just force yourself to get up and go running. once you're there ou going to be pushing even further. sometimes i set the alarm 30 mins earlier than my normal wake up time and keep pressing snooze til its time for the real time to wake up. that helps
