Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

what do you do with your DC while you shower?

I used to use the doorway jumper but cant now because she reaches into the vanity drawer and pulls stuff out. Now using the jumperoo which she doesnt like as much and have tried just letting her loose in the bathroom but she ends up pulling the curtain back and gets totally wet. DD recently started another bout of separation anxiety and cries during the entire shower and is fine as soon as i step out the shower.

  • I shower before I get DS up for the day. Either he is still sleeping or hanging in his crib awake. If I am slow moving I shower when DS goes down for his nap.

  • I have a PNP set up in the bedroom.  He sits in there and plays while I shower.

This!  If something happens and I need to shower once DS is up, I just deal with him standing in the bathroom, with the shower curtain pulled back bawling his pretty little eyes out :)

  • Luckily DD has never had much problem with seperation anxiety. While I shower she is gated into her room or the living room which are the two rooms of the house that are baby proofed really well. I check on her right before I get in and as soon as I dry off.
  • I usually take a shower the night before after he goes to bed. If I don't & need to shower in the morning I put him in his crib with some books & toys.

  • DD is usually in the bathroom with me.  Lately, I've just been putting her on the potty and letting her read her books.  I take a quick shower, and she's been using the potty since 9 months, so she isn't bothered by it.  Today I actually took her off the potty before I had read one of her books and she fussed until I put her back on and read it to her!
  • If DH isn't around, I either take him in with me or put him in his pack n play with some toys.

  • O is into everything, so I either shower before he's up or he hangs with DH. I was desperate the other day and I couldn't find a safe place where he wouldnt scream, so I stripped him down and let him play with a bunch of ball pit balls in the shower as I cleaned myself up. He didn't even notice I was there, lol. He had a blast. (edited for spelling)

  • I shower at night when DH is home and DD is in bed. If I need to fix my hair in the morning, I just wet and style it.

  • I put DD in the shower with me & have since she was about 9 months old.  She LOVES it and runs around having a great time.  We have a large shower (no tub/shower) so there's enough room.  Sometimes she even comes & gets me to let me know she wants to get in the shower she likes it so much. If I want an easier shower I just take on when she is napping.

  • I shower after he goes to bed usually.  Sometimes DH can watch him in the morning while I shower.
  • If DS is awake then he gets in the shower with me.  That is the only way I can shower when he is around, even if DH is home DS will not let me shower alone.

  • E will take a shower with one of us most days, or she will play in the bathroom while we shower. We will put on child-friendly music and she will dance, sing, etc while we shower.
  • I bathe at night, always have.

  • I just let him run around in my room/bathroom. I have some toys in there for him but he mostly likes to take all the lotions out of the drawers or rearrange our shoes. If DS1 is home, I ask him to stay in my room and play with him. He's a good big brother.

  • Lately they have been sitting in my bed watching Sprout while I shower.  I shut and lock my bedroom door so they can't wander around the house.  Or I put them in the playroom.  Most days I try to shower before they get up or while they are napping.  My husband travels for work, so I have found many ways to get a shower in with the kids present (and none of them include bringing them in the shower with me because that would just be annoying).

  • I shower when the girls take their morning nap. If I need to shower before then, I put them in a crib together with a bunch of toys and let them play while I take a quick shower.
  • If DS is awake, I usually just shut our bedroom door and he wanders between the bedroom and master bath.  Typically he finds something to get into since our bedroom still has stuff within his reach, but nothing that he can get hurt on.
  • The bathroom in the master suite is babyproofed.  I turn on Handy Manny or Imagination Movers in our bedroom and let him run around between the two rooms while I shower-make up-hair-get dressed.  95% of the time he just sits and watches his shows or dances around.  I can count on my hand the number of times he's gotten in the shower with me or had a problem while I was in there.  It works great--for now.  :)
  • Dh watches her, before K gets up, while she is napping, or in desperate situations, I will put on a tv show and its a mad dash.

  • DS plays in a babyproofed area and DD comes with me. I wait for a time where DS is happily playing independently so I can get a long shower.

  • Usually while he is sleeping or if I don't get a chance to then I wait until DH is home and he can watch him.  When I have to shower while he is awake I pull back the outer shower curtain (so only the see-through one is down so we can see each other) and shower with him in the bathroom with me.  He plays with toys.  He doesn't like to shower (loves baths) so he pretty much leaves me alone.

  • I usually do it before they all get up.  I work during the week usually.   However if its a weekend or a snow day (like today), I wait until first nap.  My oldest two can watch a movie while I shower.  They are given instructions on opening the door, answering the phone and what is acceptable behavior.

  • I usually shower after I put her down for bed at night. If I have to shower during the day than I just close her in the bathroom with me. Our master bathroom is quite big and I just keep an eye on her through the glass shower doors. She is obsessed with looking at the mirror right now, so she basically just sits in front of the door laughing at herself in the full length mirror.
  • Most days I shower before she wakes up. On the days that that doesn't happen, I put on a Dora episode for her and get her a snack. She doesn't move from in front of the tv.

  • I usually give DD some toys to play with in the bathroom and shower as fast as possible. I have to tie up the trash and put a lock on the toilet. It works for us.

  • I usually take a shower during DD's first nap. If not (which is rare), I strap her in the toddler rocking chair and put on a video. I always feel guilty about it, though.
