Hey ladies,
I am part of a circuit training class on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am also in school and take fitness and conditioning.
I've read that I'm not supposed to do on the back exercises after the first trimester, but what about things like the plank position? And are there any other exercises that I need to steer clear from?
TIA for your help!
Re: 1st Tri ?
You don't need to steer clear of anything, possibly ever.
I'm still doing exercises on my back. I feel fine. I don't get any lightheadedness or nausea, so I haven't quit. I haven't had any ab separation, so I've continued doing planks and other core exercises.
Feel free to ask your doctor. Honestly, mine didn't have a lot to say. I've done my own research and so far, continuing with my lifting has not been a problem. I credit it with my lack of back pain and generally feeling great.
My main modifications have been not lying on my stomach (around 18-20 weeks), and omitting exercises where I might accidentally whack my stomach with a weight (around 26 weeks when the belly started being in the way).

At 20 weeks I was told not to sleep on my back or do any exercises that require me to be on my back for more than 10 minutes as the weight of the uterus cuts off blood supply to the other organs.
Yeah, women get told this all the time. How many exercises have you on your back for more than 10 consecutive minutes? How many people really control what position they sleep in?
It's not a problem unless you're uncomfortable. Your body will let you know if you're crushing blood supply to major organs.
