What do you think of the name Max?

Part of me thinks it sounds "dog-ish". However, my dd's nn is Sam, and I also think THAT sounds "dog-ish". I just think that Max R- is such a terribly "boyish" name, and it could be good for a grownup.

Yeah, it's also up there for teasing. "Grody to the Max," which is dating me, but there's more out there, I'm sure.

What do you think? (For a boy)

Re: What do you think of the name Max?

  • I really like the name max
  • Loading the player...
  • I like Max, but it makes me think of a line in a song by my fave band "don't need none of that Mad Max bullshit".

also, Mad Max would be an awesome nickname.

  • Sorry, for me it's more a dog name, because my stepdad had a doberman named Max.
  • I think Max is a good name if it is short for something. I don't think I would just name a baby Max.

I never would have thought of "grody to the max!"

  • Adorable!  One of my best friends named her baby boy Max.  She has impecible style and class... so I figure if her son is named Max, it's a pretty awesome name!! :)
  • Maxwell? Maximus? or just Max?

I like the name and tried to convince my brother in-law and his wife to name their recent son that...but they went with Luke.

  • I really like it. ?Would it be short for anything or make the full name Max?
  • I like it, DH loves it. It's definitely on our boy list..
  • I like it!

  • My SIL is naming her son Maxton and his nn will be Max. I like Max, not crazy about Maxton though.

  • I love it!  My little bro's name is Logan Maxwell and he goes by Max
  • I like Maxwell a lot - Max is a nice, strong male name, IMO.
  • I like Max, but not crazy about the longer versions of the name.  It is on our possible list of names.
  • I work on movies and in the past week I've watched Liar Liar (little boy named Max) and Max Payne. The name just kinda "came to me".

I think I like Maxwell best of all the "options". Better than Maximus or Maximillian or anything like that.

  • I like it. I've also seen it as a nickname for Maddox. I like Maxwell best, though.
  • My manager has twin boys, and one is named Max. She named him after the book, "Where the Wild Things Are", since its her favorite kids book.

    I like it.

  • Its actually our front runner right now. My FIL's name is Maximo and my bro's name is Manuel so we though Maxwell was good combo to honor them both. We'd most likely call him Max.  My last name is R- also and I think it flows.

  • i like it.

true story ~ my friend had a dog max growing up.. and now she has a husband named max. i dont know why but i always laugh about that when i think of it.

okay that was probably pretty lame but oh well i amused myself.

  • I love it...but it's my dog's name.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I love the name Max, it was our top boy name when we got married - the puppy came first & I like dogs with random human names - like Max, Ted, Bob (I think it sounds funny).  I would still use it for a baby boy if we didn't have our dog, that would just get confusing!
  • I like it a lot. It was one of our boy choices if we would have had a boy.

  • I love it- if we were having a boy we were going to name him Max. ?I like it because it cant be shortened.
  • My DH loves this name and our little boy will likely be Max (90%), so I like it.
  • PS I had a vent post about this about a week or so ago.  When I disclosed the name to a friend (against my better judgment) she spits out that its a dog's name.  Oh Well...to each his/her own.

(I would have named our most recent lab Max, but my DH would not let me b/c he wanted to save the name for future baby!  Smile

  • Honestly, I think it sounds like a dog's name too (its the most popular dog's name)...
Mom of 3 year old, one year old and one on the way (due late Summer 2013).
  • My MIL's dog is named Max so thats what I think of when I hear it......but if I didn't have this association I would like it for a boy.
