pampers vs huggies

So i am trying to complete my registry soon. Our first shower is on March 1st.  I registered mostly for huggies, but i wasnt sure if i should put a mixture of diapers in the registry since I am not sure what will be best for my son once he comes.  I just wanted some opinions on each and if you think its best to register for a variety. Thanks!!

Re: pampers vs huggies

  • Obviously price is a slight difference but other than that, it depends on the child. We like pampers swaddlers for the first few months and then cruisers for daytime and Huggies overnight as they get older.

I would also advise against getting too many of one particular size.

  • I didn't register for diapers and hadn't even thought of that.  Katelyn started out in Pampers Swaddlers Newborn size and was in those for a while.  You never know how small/big your child will be and how fast they will grow, so my only suggestion if you are registering for them is to get different sizes and not get all newborn size.

  • In addition to what pp said, make sure you either keep the receipt or you have a store that won't kill you if you try to return to them.  Although most stores carry huggies and pampers, so you can always hit up grocery or something like that to exchange one size for another... although switching brands would be more difficult.

FWIW, We loved swaddlers (up to size 3) and cruisers (3 and up) with Eli, before eventually using generic (BRU, Meijer or Target brands).

I agree with PP and you can take home lots of Swaddlers from the hospital. We used those and then used cruisers but currently use Pampers cheaper sister brand LUVS for all our diaper needs. Personally the Huggies diapers did not work for my son at all - he leaked out of them all the time. So I think it's a trial and error thing until you find something that works. GL!

  • FWIW, Huggies gave DS a HORRIBLE rash (like blisters) and we have never been able to use them. Oh and the few times we used Huggies (before I realized it was the diaper itself causing the rash not just a regular diaper rash) the Huggies leaked really bad. My SIL's and my best friend had the same problem using Huggies with their boys, girls not so much. We used Pampers preemie-newborn then once we switched to size 1 we started using Luvs and have used Luvs ever since. I agree w/ PP's about making sure you have a variety of sizes and brands since you never know what will work.

  • we're a Pampers family. Huggies always leaks for us. that said, we use Huggies wipes vs Pampers because I like the thickness off them. I felt that Pampers wipes were too wet. ditto the sizes, da is almost ready for 2s and started in newborns.

  • We use/used both with both kids. I think Huggies Overnights when they get older are the very best overnight diapers. We used Pampers Swaddlers and Pampers Baby Dry religiously with DD. We used Swaddlers and Huggies Little Movers with DS. Some people say Huggies seem to do better with boys. I don't know if I think that is true or not but Huggies have done a good job with DS.

  • Pampers and huggies both don't work for DD, she leaks in both.  We ended up using Target diapers and love them!  And they're cheaper so it's  a win win.

ETA:  Posted too fast.  You might want to start with a small number of one brand and see how it goes.  You may find you do ok in them, or you may need to switch, it will just depend on your LO.

  • We like Huggies. We've tried Pampers in every size so far and found that they leak poop much more than Huggies. DH doesn't like the way they smell.

I like Huggies Little Snugglers and Little Movers (size 2 and up). It helps a ton to open up the diaper before you put it on and stretch out the little elastic legband so it can get a good seal.

We also have tried lots of wipes and like the Huggies Sensitive best. It has a good texture and thickness. The Pampers Sensitive wipes just moved the poop around.

  • We used Pamper Swadlers for newborn, and have been using Huggies ever since then.  We will do the same for our next baby.  Love Huggies:)
