Infertility

Am I the only one doing it alone?

Just wondering.

For me it was a decision I had to make to continue to TTC alone, considering things fell apart with the Ex, and it doesn't look like the actual Mr. Right is coming along anytime soon. ( And if he did I doubt starting a family would be the first thing he wants to work on , know what I mean?)

I'm "only" ( as my mother likes to remind me) 31 but as far as child bearing goes I know that's not really that young especially if you factor in my PCOS , and I just don't want to waste I don't know how long waiting  for my mate and then find out I lost all hope of having a baby....

Anyway... anyone else here going through this alone like me?

I'm so glad we live in a day and age where a woman can follow her dreams and her heart and where women have the medical resources available to start a family of their own with or without a Mr./Mrs. Right in the picture.

  • Wow! I have to say I didn't expect responses like that, you guys have made my afternoon.

I don't know if I'd call myself brave... I think the real brave ones are single mothers who didn't think they'd end up single mothers but bust their butts everyday for their kids. Know what I mean ?

But I will admit, pregnancy , giving birth and raising a child (or children) is definitely something I want. I've wanted it since I was at least 8 years old.

It was drilled in my head there was a "right" way to do things, do good in school , graduate college, get a stable job, get married and have a stable place to live and THEN worry about starting a family.

I followed every single step and NADA so I think it's time to do what I want to do the way I think it needs to be done and hopefully I'll be blessed with the gift of a child.

Thanks again ladies, you really gave me such a boost that I didn't even realize I needed !

    This!

Just curious, though, have you considered freezing your eggs to use later?  Not that it's any of my business, but I've been reading alot about vitrification of eggs giving much better results than the old-style freezing.

Is this to me ? Or to Jess?

If it's to me, would I still be able to do that? I have ovulation issues, the PCOS makes my ovaries produce lots of follicles but they don't mature without medication and since I don't ovulate on my own I need medication for that too.

  • I hope you don't mind me posting, but I was on my way to doing it on my own.

I had moved to Houston from Atlanta for a better paying job so I could do it on my own.  Then I met DH.  I told him my plan - my clock was ticking - I was 36 years old.  He asked for a year, which I gave him.  We married and here I am now - 4 IVF cycles later.

I have a good friend in Atlanta that is 37 years old and is checking into having her eggs frozen since she hasn't met her Mr. Right. At least I can share with her my IVF experiences with her since it can be so overwhelming.

As happy as I am to have DH there, I was really ready to do it on my own.

    Good luck to you!!

  • Even with POCS, I'm pretty sure that you have the option to freeze your eggs.  Just like you are given meds to help you produce eggs and ovulate befor your IUI, you can do the same thing for other procedures like IVF or freezing your eggs.  Many fertility clinics offer this.  Even if you do an IUI, you could freeze a few eggs for when Mr. Right does come along.  That way he'll still have the opportunity to have a child with you.

    Good luck!

  • I'm not a poster on this board, just a lurker. But, I too am going it alone.

Not sure how I would be received here since while I am going through fertility treatments, I do not have true infertility issues in the same sense. As my RE puts it, the reason I can't get pregnant on my own is lack of a penis. (Sorry!)

I am 37, never married - wasn't in the cards for me. I've been a "thinker" for  about 5 years and am now actively trying. This is my 4th IUI cycle and I am using Clomid/Ovidrel trigger.
