Beta #4 in - I really need advice here ladies

My beta's have been rising, but not doubling every 48 hours. You can see all the betas in my signature. My last beta came in today at 1064. It is doubling at a 77% rate - and I have been between 70-80% ever since my first beta.

My RE's office wants me to come in on Thursday for an u/s, however I have a sales meeting 3 1/2 hours away from I live. I had planned on driving in tomorrow night to be there for the 8am start. The meeting runs all day Thursday and till 2 on Friday. RE's office will not do an u/s over the weekend (its office policy, the RE on staff this weekend won't break the rules, such an a$$) so my choice is either stay, get u/s, and then drive out to catch the second half of the meeting on Thursday, or wait in beta hell for 6 more days until Monday.

My boss knows that I went through another IVF, but doesn't know any of the results. She has no kids of her own and though she has given me laditude over the past year during treatments and has tried to understand what I am going through, I don't know how much more I can ask of her. My performance has been pretty crappy lately, mostly due to my lack of motivation brough on by the fact that I can't have babies.

I also know that regardless of how the u/s turns out on Thursday or Monday, there is nothing the RE can do to help the pregnancy, so going to the meeting and sucking it up till Monday isn't going to change the outcome. DH is comfortable with waiting till Monday, so he will support me with whatever I decide to do.

What should I do? What would you do? I'm going to get some lunch with my dad to clear my head and check back. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so to much!

FWIW my RE never looked for my number to double every 48hrs, they said it should go up 60-70% every 48 hrs. They also said that they don't know why people say it should double every 48 hrs because that is just not true, it should double every 48-72 hrs, hence the 60-70% increase in 48 hrs being fine.

I think that if you can wait until Monday I would do that. Like you said there is nothing they can do at this point and if you wait until Monday they will probably be able to see more. How far along will you be on Monday? They can't confirm a h/b until 6 weeks-ish so you won't see much anyway before then.

The right thing to do is probably wait until Monday. But if I'm put in your situation with all the non-encouraging things your RE said I probably do it Thursday. I really think that your beta rises sounds fine.

It would kill me, but I'd probably wait until monday. I know it's so far away but I think you're right that he won't be able to do anything either way. I hope your rising betas are a good sign though!

My logical brain says wait until Monday.

But realistically, if it was me, I would need the u/s. I would be useless at work anyways. Being in limbo sucks.

I would wait until Monday because I don't think the Thursday u/s will give you any more information than your rising betas. Good luck!

Personally I think your RE is being overly a pain. Your numbers are good and making you wait for an ultrasound b/c of work is patently unfair. :-(

Can you get an u/s before you leave tomorrow? It would kill me to wait until Monday.

I was just lurking and saw ur post.

I know how hard waiting is and it SUCKS!!!!! But I would prob wait, bc u already had the 1 u/s showing the embryo and you really can't see a hb on the u/s tilll ur betas are around 6000. So since your not there yet, there is prob very little the u/s can tell you. My guess is, they will just say come back for another one in X days.

Since we have the same job, and my boss sounds exactly like yours, I will say it is so important to have them on your side. And showing up for the meeting will prob help that cause. I am in the same boat bc my 4th quarter 2010 was SOOOOOOOO bad. I was in the middle of miscarrying and i really couldn't focus. At this point, i really need to keep my boss on my side bc i have no intention of looking for another job.

I think your betas sound pretty good, and boooo for them not doing an u/s on the weekend.

I agree with everyone that waiting until Monday sounds best. I hope you can find some way to distract yourself, hon! I'm sorry you're still going through this.

FWIW I remain hopeful that this pregnancy is going to turn out fine. Continued T&Ps!

I wish i had the restraint to wait until monday, but i would probably go thursday...that's just me. I think if you can, (and especially if you plan to keep this job after having your LO) then it's probably best to go to the meeting and wait until monday....but....that's so much easier said than done.

Sorry you are going through this. As most of the other ladies said, your betas are going up and not all betas double at 48 hrs so I think your RE is being a little pessamistic. This is definately tough. I know I would want the early u/s but as others said, waiting until Monday would probably be best if you can handle it. Just do what you need to do for you! ((HUGS))

Thanks guys - we are going to hold off to do the u/s on Monday. The sad part about Monday is that last year, I found out that I was going to have a m/c the day after Valentines day - the timing of all this is just really freaking me out.

Some of you mentioned, they aren't really going to be able to see anything on Thursday anyway, so I am trying to convince myself that there is no point. If I hadn't been through IF treatment and was just a regular person, I would be oblivious to all this beta crap. I am sure there have been plenty of people who have had beta's like this who didn't even know it and went on to have healthy babies.

I know there is always a chance of m/c, especially this early. I just never thought that beta hell could last this long! I would love it if just ONCE something could be easy for me. OK. Pitty party is officially over.

Thanks very much for all the advice! I don't know what I would do had I not found the IF ladies on this board!

I think your betas are right on track, they stop doubling every 48 hours at some point- sorry I don't remember when.

FWIW- mine didn't double every 48 hours and where what I considered low for the end result- twins. Your betas are going up, girlfriend you are pregnant!!!!

First congrats and I hope your stay is here is happy and healthy for 9 months!!! Also on monday it looks like you will be 6 weeks and that is just the time to see/ hear the heartbeat. Even if you had an u/s on thursday you probably won't see the heartbeat only a sac and it may or may not be totally in the clear, whereas monday you are more likely to see it. SOme RE won't do an u/s that early anyway. My heart and head say wait till monday BUT I have been through IF too and totally understand the anxiety of the u/s. Hope this helps and keep us posted

Since you've already seen the sac in your ute it sounds like there isn't a risk that this is an ectopic. I still think that your betas don't sound bad either. So I guess I would try to wait until Monday. That way you'll probably get some better information at the u/s too because you'll be farther along.
