Never mind if you don't have the money, let's say you did. And no fair saying that even if you won the lottery, you'd live in austerity and use the cash to fund a small island nation. Everybody has a weakness for something. If you could afford it, what would you buy that others might give the side-eye? (No parameters on how much it costs, it could be anything from an ipad to a BMW).
Re: What would you splurge on?
I'd start with my Bucket list.
#1. Greek Isles
I'd also buy a house on my favorite street in the town I grew up in. They are beautiful victorians on the water. I've always been obsessed.
Definitely purses. I've had my Coach for 5 years and it still looks great.
Vacations. I hate staying in cheap hotels. I'd go 5 star every time if I could.
Food. I love expensive, gourmet food.
I would go on a huge shopping spree. Whole new wardrobe etc.
But looking at single items, would be a new engagement ring. DH was hoping we could upgrade at our 5yr anniversary but that wasn't possible.
1. Coach purse
2. I-Phone
3. SUV
A nanny for DS (even though I'm a SAHM......). Maybe not fulltime, but definitely 4 or so hours a day so I could do other things.
A nice and large apartment in Manhattan. I've always loved the city, wish I still lived there, but can't afford even close to what I'd want right now.
A vacation home in the mountains, either Catskills or VT, on or near a lake for all season use.
A fancy and completely impractical little convertible sports car in an obnoxious color like yellow or red.
A full time housekeeper / cook.
Not necessarily in that order. A girl can dream, right?
luxery bath stuff
tons of super cute cloth diapers
definately agree on the nanny for a few hours a week- just to get out or even just read a book
agree again on fixing up an old historic home!
and agree on taking a super cool vacation
home decor, furnishings & furniture - likely with either a new home or some remodeling to this one...and landscaping
- Audi Q7 (SUV)
- our dream house with land and a gorgeous view in Yorkshire, England
- romantic vacation somewhere tropical and 5 star
- serious designer shopping

1) A beautiful house on a ton of acreage. Like, I would go way overboard on this house - a bedroom and a playroom for Miles, a project room for me and a separate workshop for DH, a library, a family room - you get the idea. Oh, and I would build a giant playhouse and jungle gym/swingset in the backyard for Miles.
2) A full-time cleaning lady. No way I could keep up on that huge house by myself.
3) A part-time nanny. I would love to have someone on call to watch Miles so I can run to the store or whatever.
My first thought is a new wardrobe. Somehow I always feel like I have nothing to wear, even though I have a closet full of clothes. But in all honesty, I do need more "mom" clothes as most of mine are dressy from when I was teaching.
If I thought about it longer, I would probably say I would spend it on traveling. I really want to go to Europe, like spend at least a month traveling.

A part-time babysitter (2-3 hours a day)
My own Barista to make me coffee anytime I wanted
A new SUV and Eco-Friendly car (to balance out the gas guzzler!)
Vacation home in the woods on a lake
1) A new car
2) A Kindle (to help with #3)
3) A warm, completely stress free vacation.

#1 - Massive addition to our house that we are planning for one day.
#2 - Amazing benefits for the whole family so I'm not forced to go back to work
#3 - Shoes for myself - lots of expensive, beautiful shoes
A penthouse apartment in NYC with breathtaking views, and a beach house in Hawaii. We would stay in the DC area because we love it, but would vacation in NY and HI often. Oh, and we would take our private jet. :-)
On a smaller scale, I would spend about $5000 at J.Crew every season. :-)
I would go to India for a month without DD. I guess that is the part that's side-eye worthy. It's a hiking/biking package that I have all picked out, if only the $$ would magically materialize.
If you're talking about a physical thing, I'd love to splurge on a really nice sectional, instead of the West Elm-quality couch we'll probably end up getting. I also wouldn't mind one really spectacular piece of art to go above said sectional.
I desperately NEED an IPod, and I truly mean NEED. It would be much better for my dance classes, plus once I go on to teaching aerobics. Ugh. I will get one eventually.
I'd get a laptop for me, and a new computer for DH....even though his is less than a year old, he is always wanting something newer.
Then I'd go for a nice child-free vacation, but only for maybe 4 days or so.
I truthfully don't care about nicer cars, a bigger place to live, jewelry, ect.
Cam 6.6.10 - Autism, Global Developmental Delay, Mixed Receptive/Expressive Communication Disorder
Full renovation of the house we are buying this summer -- it's 90 yrs old and I'd like to renovate it using antique/reclaimed materials.
Entirely new wardrobe for me after baby #2 comes.
Travel - both domestic and international, with and without kids present.
I let DH splurge on an iPad a few months ago. He still plays with it ALL the time, but it's actually been pretty useful since we've had trouble with our laptops.
I'd splurge on a beautiful Victorian home and a fully loaded family car to replace our two-door sports car. Oh, and a trip to Greece post-baby.
