I was wondering for those of you that decided to do cord blood banking which company you went with and why? I know each company pricing varies also, and there are ways to get cheaper prices/deals through each. Any advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated, and if you wouldn't mind sharing what you paid as well. It is for sure something I'm interested in, I'm just not sure who to go with because of all the options. Thanks so much in advance for your help!
Re: Best Cord Blood Bank/Pricing
Here is a link to a place we looked into using... not entirely sure on prices but I know that next time I will start the process a lot earlier in my pregnancy. We originally wanted to bank our baby's cord blood but after talking to my OB about it we decided that donating would be a better decision. The chances of it being used are 1/700, I would rather donate it for the use of others or research. In order to donate you have to start the process prior to your 34th week of pregnancy.
My OB informed me that in the next few years banking cord blood will be very much like a regular blood bank - it will be free and available for everyone.
I do know the prices I saw ranged from $2000-$2500 initially and approximately $150-200 annually after. I had not found a location in Minnesota....at this point they are all out of state and the cord blood kit is shipped to you to bring to L&D - then the doctors will take care of the immediate shipping back to the bank.
