I had my VBAC consultation today and it went very well. I wasn't really sure what to expect but was so pleased with the Dr. He was just so positive about the whole process which was so refreshing to hear. My OB was not proVBAC and doesn't perform them because the hospital (in our small town) is "not equipped for such emergencies" she referred me to the Dr that I saw today in Columbia MO and after my consult I am feeling empowered and just so excited about this pregnancy.
He said he has a 70% success rate with VBAC's. I curious, is this typical/high/low?
And "Hello" as I don't think I've introduced myself on this board before. My birth experience with my DS was not a 'bad' one per se and I feel fine about how it all went down. I was induced, went 8 hours of labor w/ 2 hours of pushing. His head was stuck and heartrate started to drop and my Dr. thought a C-Section would be best. Not what I had hoped for but in the end I have a happy and healthy DS and I couldn't ask for more. I miss my OB and wish I could still be her patient but we've since moved 12 hours away
Re: Had my consultation today and excited!
Yay!
Sounds wonderful.
I believe the average VBAC success rate is around 60% +, so 70% isn't bad at all.
This is exactly what happened to me! I'm curious, what did the new OBGYN say about that scenario in terms of how successful the VBAC will be?
My c/s was a similar scenario--around 2 hours of pushing, no progress. The OB that did my c/s told me I could only have a VBAC if I had a preemie because future babies would get stuck just like my daughter did. My current OB thinks that is ridiculous and he's very optimistic about my VBAC chances. He didn't give me a number, but his outlook is very positive. So we'll see what happens.
OP, glad to hear your consultation went well! That is great news. A 70% VBAC rate is pretty good although there are some doctors/midwives with higher rates.
Sorry I'm posting this days later, haven't been on the bump in a couple of days. The OB/GYN wanted to feel my pelvis area to see if it was small or narrow and after his evaluation he said that my pelvis was "an average American woman pelvis" and that he does not think that is any cause for concern. He did say that some women have narrow pelvis' and that if that was the case he would not recommend VBAC.
