Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Why won't my babies sleep anymore?

My babies have been sleeping fine in their cribs at night, and in swings or bouncers during the day for naps.  Suddenly, sleep does not exist.  My babies WILL NOT sleep unless they are nursed to sleep, or swayed, rocked and shushed to sleep in a dark room w/ white noise.  Then, when I try putting them in their cribs, it's WAAAAA!!!

They are on reflux meds.

I'd love to be able to rock them to sleep all the time since I'm a SAHM, BUT..... only one mommy.  I don't want to have them cry in their cribs until they fall asleep, b/c I'm already doing that when I have to feed one baby and the other is crying.  So I feel guilty, the poor things have no clue where mommy is when I'm right there feeding his brother.

How can I get my babies to sleep w/out so much help?  How can I get them to like their cribs?

Re: Why won't my babies sleep anymore?

  • Sorry, wish I knew the answer.  I have the same problem.  My little guy HATES nap time and it's really hard to get him down most of the time.  Some times he screams and screams and screams no matter what I do until I guess he wears himself out.  I feel terrible because I try everything rocking, bouncing, shhshing, (everything that used to work), he's not hungry, not wet, not gassy, etc.  Just plain tired and can't get to sleep.  Sometimes though I am lucky and if I catch him at the first sign of a yawn or eye rub, he'll go to sleep in my arms quickly.  But, then I have to hold him till he is in a deep sleep before putting him down, or we have to start all over again.  And he only naps for 30 minutes.  Sigh

  • Growth spurts maybe?  Do you put them down drowsy?

  • Mermaid, this sounds like me.  Except I have to keep the boys on opposite schedules so I don't have 2 screaming babies trying to fall asleep at the same time.

Maybe it is a growth spurt.. I really hope so!!  I do put them down drowsy, but the first indication that I'm trying to put them down, it's WAAAAAAA!!  I think they know that room is for sleeping, and they don't wanna be in there.  Even the swing doesn't work.

  • How old are the boys? It's probably either a grown spurt or 4-month wakeful period, Hopefully it will get better for you soon. I know how hard it is. We've been dealing with the same problem for a few weeks now. Our LOs got a cold, and it ruined their ability to fall asleep on their own. They are just now getting back into their routine again. Good luck! This too shall pass (soon hopefully).
  • They are almost 4 months old..... what is this "wakeful period"?  Hmm..
