:sigh:: Tummy time STILL ruins DD's day

Ok, I don't do it as much as I should, so that's probably why she still hates it, but seriously, the 30 minute meltdowns afterward don't really encourage me to do tummy time more frequently.  :-(

I finally had to pop a bottle in her mouth just to get her to stop crying after today's tummy time--even though she just ate an hour ago.  I don't remember DS being this bad, but maybe I always nursed him afterward?

  • I used to make DH do it.  He would hold them on his chest laying down and they seemed to like that better than the floor or the boppy but both still cried during it.  Maybe do it before feedings if the bottle will soothe her afterward?  Surprisingly Maggie hated it way more than Molly and Molly ended up being more low muscle tone and needing some PT through EI to get to walking.

  • DS hated it as well.  I honestly think its reflux related - well and for us add in the fact that DS has always been a big big baby and he has a lot more weight to tote around.  I did tummy time in increments.  He'd only last 2-3 minutes.  I'd also lay on my back and put him on my tummy.  He lasted longer there.  Ultimately doing every little bit helps even if its not for extended periods of time.  DS was sitting up on his own unassisted at 5 months and even though he just started consistantly rolling over and crawling at 9 months he's progressed rapidly in the past 3 weeks.

  • Our LOs always hated it until about 3 weeks ago. I think a combination of maturity and some type of magic that our daycare providers have did the trick. Since they started daycare, they have improved so much. I think the daycare providers "force" them to do it several times a day and don't give up on them as fast DH and I do when they cry. And now that they are doing it more often, they don't cry as much. Yesterday, DD even rolled over onto her stomach by herself and did tummy time on her own without crying.
  • M hated tummy time for a long time, so we rarely did it. He was a very early roller (started rolling consistently from belly to back at 3 weeks old), and he would only stay on his tummy for maybe 30 seconds until he rolled or started crying. I didn't force it. Now he's 6 months old and actually likes being on his tummy. He can lift himself up pretty well and has good arm strength. What I'm trying to say is it all works out in the end.

  • DS lasts about two minutes.  I do it maybe once a day, maybe once every other day.  He's had so many problems with his GI stuff and now RSV, I think to myself, why the heck would I want to MAKE a baby cry who cries all the time anyway?  Tongue Tied

  • DD hated it, but DS actually likes it.  I think it's because he is so gassy that the pressure on his tummy helps.
  • She can sit for about 10 seconds, which is awesome, but doesn't have any arm strength to tripod sit, which is why I've been forcing the tummy time.  Honestly, she still does the flailing thing when on her tummy.  She doesn't use her arms at all.  She can roll, but only if I prop her up on her arms first.

It doesn't seem to matter if I do tummy time on my chest or on the floor, and even a few minutes evokes 10x as much screaming after she's done. :-(  Hey, she'll be able to do it by kindergarten...

really this was DS.  He looked like a beached whale - in the cutest way ever.  He never used his arms until about 8 months.  I would get on the floor, show him how to do things, see if I could get him to mimic me.  I'd prop him up on his elbows.  Nothing... He'd just scream.  Magically at 9 months, he now enjoys it.  I really thought he would be one of those babies to skip crawling and go to walking as much as he sits, stands up against things etc but he's probably going to be crawling here in a few more weeks.
