Bikram or other Yoga Recommendations - Naperville / Western Suburbs

Hello Chicago Moms!

3 weeks ago, I welcomed my second child, Jacob into the world.  He is an absolute joy.  In the next upcoming weeks, I am very much looking forward to beginning an exercise program to help me regain my body.

Has anyone tried Bikram Yoga?  Any feedback would be appreciated.  Once I'm cleared for exercise again at my six week appt, I would like to try out bikram yoga.  Are there other types of yoga that you prefer and are offered in studios in the Western Suburbs?

Any reviews would be appreciated.

Thanks all and Happy 2011!

Re: Bikram or other Yoga Recommendations - Naperville / Western Suburbs

  • Congratulations on your second child!  How exciting!

I used to go to the Bikram downtown Naperville and it was okay.  It's a great workout, 90 minutes and you literally come out sweating!  However, if you want the spiritual part of yoga, it's not there.  Bikram to me is more like a gym workout vs. a spiritual yoga practice.  But, it helps shed some pounds!  I would try it and see what you think!

I go to Yoga Among Friend in Downers Grove.  I really like it there!

    Good luck and congratulations!

  • I am def yogie, I started practicing about 2 years ago and It has totally changed my life. Personally I don't recommend trying Bikram for a first timer, it is extremelty hot and it can be a little overwheleming. I recommend trying a vinayassa syle of class THEY ARE GREAT, and it will keep your heart rate up. I recommend YogaView on Elston or Divioson,. Good luck!
