My C-section experience (Not a birthing story).....

I hear horror stories about c-sections all the time on TB.  I just wanted those who might have to have one (lurkers) that it's not nearly as bad as I thought!

It's true.  Some people have better experiences than others but all I hear about are awful experiences.  So I'm here to say mine wasn't bad at all.

I had the surgery.  They let me hold my baby in the surgery room with assistance.  DH stayed with DD and I met them in the recovery room 30 minutes later.  The pain wasn't really pain.  Most of the time is was just very tender.  Getting in and out of a bed was extremely painful but by day 2 I was walking around just fine!  The key is staying on your ibuprofen!  That helped me out better than the other drug that they offerred.  I felt that I could drive a car 3 days later but didn't until 1 week.  I was able to bend over and do laudry and all!  The only things that I didn't do were move fast.. You must move slow.  And also I didn't walk long distances (grocery store etc).

Please tell me I'm not the only one?!?!?!??!?

Re: My C-section experience (Not a birthing story).....

  • Krisann I don't really get the point of your post!

This is a pro-VBAC board.  Everyone here has experienced a c-section & whether a positive or negative experience, most of us have made the decision to work towards a VBAC with the next LO!  We all know what the recovery from a section is like & what we can do to make it better!  That doesn't mean we are pro-c or want to do it again!

I too had a great c-section experience, physically!  It saved my life but nearly crippled me emotionally!  It was never in the plan & it still isn't!

Thanks for your post but honestly I think it would be more appreciated on the 3rd trimester board or another pregnancy board where women who previously had a section are not working their tails off to achieve a natural or vaginal birth!

GL with your next delievey, c-section or not!

  • I do think maybe you're confused on what this board is?  Like pp said, we've all had c/s before, which is how we've landed here.  I definitely think it's good for women to hear positive c/s stories as well though, but there's no turning back on what has happened already!  :)

  • why are you on this board?  your first post here in a similar tone asks why one wants a VBAC and then this post saying "c/sections are great".  Like pp said, we've all had c/s on this board, and we're all trying to avoid them this time around.

  • I'm not really sure what the point of this post is and what kind of responses you are looking for.  You seem like you're trying to school us on c/s and how to have a good recovery--well everyone on this board has had a c/s and already knows basic things like "take your ibuprofen."

But yeah, my c/s itself was a lot worse than I expected it to be and the recovery was a lot easier than I expected it to be.  For whatever that's worth.

  • I'm also confused by the title of your post. How is talking about your c/s experience not a birthing story? I'm just curious because I can't figure out what you mean.

But yeah, the recovery from my c/s wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I had other complications that were problematic. But the surgery itself went as well as could be expected. I do know my recovery was harder than it would have been for a vaginal delivery and so even though a c/s can be "not that bad," I still would choose vaginal if given the option.

I'd like to think we're aiming for more than just not bad. Also remember that not everyone has a great c/s experience. That's great that you did. And if I ever have to have another one, I hope it's a positive experience.

There are alot of lurkers on this board.  It was for them.  And yes it could also apply to the 3rd tri board Big Smile

Not trying to TROLL.  Oh well..... think what you want.

When this board first began, we all said we would welcome positive c-section experiences, I even shared mine to help ease some women's fears should they end up needing a c/s.  Perhaps that is why she posted.  There isn't a c/s board and we originally said we would welcome questions, etc on c/s on this board since we all experienced them.

I mainly lurk because I am not pregnant again but wish to VBAC when I do have another child.  If the regulars disagree, please correct me.

If that was her intention, that is fine of course.  We welcome everyone to share their birth stories/experiences.  There are lots of posters on here who say their c/s was a good experience.

But the tone of the OP was just puzzling.

But all the lurkers are probably women who've been through a c-section. I don't think anyone's saying you can't post, we're just wondering why you're posting this here. What's the point of having a post that says "hey, my c-section was great!", when everyone on here has had a c-section already, (and also might not have had the same experience as you in terms of positive c-sections).

And I will add, I disagree with your original line that you "only hear about horror stories on the Bump." I can recall countless posts about women talking about how their c-section was great and a breeze to recover from. Take this recent post on 3-6:

    https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/48660430.aspx

Out of 20+ replies, only about 3-4 of them are women who weren't happy with their child's birth ending in a c-section. That kind of makes me think there isn't a large majority of women on here unhappy with their c-section experience.

Honestly guys... Who cares?  Let it go. I wish they just had a C board.  I'm out of this board and back to my regular boards.  Flame me if you want but I do have freedom of speech... apparently I just said it on the wrong board & with the wrong people.  I won't be posting here again and I'm pretty sure most of you are ok with that.  I am too.  See-ya on the flip side!

I'd bet your right... Very observant.  Lol!

ETA: Actually I had this whole explanation typed up but I've decided to delete it and put this.  Previous posts above sound pretty snarky.  I'm not mean and I'm not interested in getting in an arguement.  As I read the posts above only a few people were actually positive on this thread.

Bottom line: I don't want to associate with rude snarky snarks like that.  Period.....

  • This is why I think a c/s board would be nice on the bump.

Congrats on a great c/s and recovery.

  • This is so weird. This board is very welcoming of c-section stories, positive and negative. It'd be kind of strange not to be, seeing as how we've all (except for, I guess, those imaginary lurkers you keep talking about) had at least one. I've seen several posts that are reassuring to those who choose to have or end up with repeat c/s for whatever reason.

You're not the brightest crayon in the box, are you?

    1. your baby is over one year old. This board has been around for less than six months. I just don't understand why a pg woman, unless she knows she's going to have a c-section or is planning a VBAC, would lurk on a VBAC board.

    2. LOLZ to "snarky snarks". This is one of the nicest boards on here.

Yep.  This is the most drama we've ever had.  Which pretty much makes this The Nicest Board EVER.

  • OK, this thread got weird. I didn't mean my question to be snarky. I'm actually curious.

And yes, c/s experiences are welcome because those of us hoping to have VBACs may face a repeat. So I personally love hearing positive stories. But this wasn't a story. This was just, my recovery wasn't bad. And take your Ibuprofin. As many people have mentioned, we already know that. If someone has suggestions for how to make the c/s experience itself (not the recovery) better, then by all means, share them.

I agree that it was weird.

  • First, it didn't seem to me that any of the replies to you were snarky at all. More just confusion at what your intention was. Like perhaps you are coming here to encourage posters to not vbac? In any case, I'm glad you had a good experience with your c/s.

Second, and this is a moot point since your section is said and done, but just because one feels able to bend/do laundry/drive doesn't mean it is safe to do so. Its harder on your body when a person starts being more active than they should sooner than they should, even when you feel ready. There is a reason they tell c/s mamas to take it easy for as long as they do.
