Re: play kitchen
We have the Fisher Price Grow With Me kitchen, and so far I like it. It starts out in a "low" setting for littler ones, and when they get bigger, you can make it taller. It comes with a pot and a few other little accessories. It's pretty small, which I like, and my daughter loves to play with it. We have it in the eating area in our kitchen so while I cook, she can cook, too. The only thing I don't like is that it is totally plastic, and I like the look of the wooden ones better, but the ones I looked at were more expensive than we wanted to spend. We got tihs one at toys r us for about $70.

We have a KidKraft Kitchen and DD and I both love it. I love that it's adorable, not plastic, and has lots of doors for her to open and put stuff in. It didn't come w/any accessories but I got pots, pans, cups, bowls, and food from Ikea for next to nothing. The thing I don't like about it is that it is pretty short. DD is 36 inches, here's a pic so you can see the scale:
TTC #1 Cycle 14 - IUI#1=BFN, IUI#2=BFP | TTC #2 Cycle 8=BFP!!

DD also has this kitchen and loves it! It was a birthday gift and she hasn't stopped playing with it since (birthday was in August). It's perfect for a first kitchen.
We have this one also. Both kids love it. For Maggie I had it in the kitchen for a while to keep her occupied while I prepped dinner but now it is in the living room with the rest of the toys and both of them play with it.
We are a Grow-with-me Kitchen family too. It was a too-hard-to-pass-up deal one day at TRU online (I think $30, but it was only online and a flash sale). It's really the perfect height for my DD. She's almost 14 months. I love the fact that there will be more to do when she's older.
What's been driving me crazy is that the sink comes out. She loves that though. She can throw things "down the drain" and they pop out of the microwave.
It's been really easy to clean (because it's plastic) and the perfect size for our 1100 sq foot condo.
That's so funny that you mention that.... for the longest time, I couldn't figure out my little one's fascination with taking the sink out, until I took a closer look and found tons of her play food and other toys shoved in there -- I guess she was just looking for an easier way to load the oven!!
We got the Little Tikes Sizzle & Serve one for the kids at Christmas. Both of them love it, and it's holding up well. We had a smaller, cheap kitchen, and one of their favorite features was the noises and lights the burners would make - so I knew their new one needed to do something similar. I like that it came with some accessories, though we already had plenty of our own.
I found ours on Craigslist for $100, and there were tons of similar ones for sale (most of them less expensive).
