VBAC

Feeling kind of bummed

I still have plenty of time, and I know it means nothing, but I feel kind of bummed that the last two checks I've only been a loose 1 centimeter. I love my doctor (who has had her own VBAC so she is very supportive), but I want to cry when we talk about how long she'll let me go (41 weeks), etc. Just, eh, this is so scary.

  • Keep the faith!   Becky17joe just posted her VBAC story today and just a couple days prior to her baby's birth she had zero progress.  I know it's hard and can make you worry, but things can change very fast.  GL!

  • I'm sorry you're feeling bummed! I know, towards the end it just seems like time stretches out and a week becomes a year huh?

If it makes you feel any better, I was only 1cm at my 39w appt and when I asked the midwife about the on call doctor for the weekend she was like "I'll see you next week" (as in, she was certain I wouldn't be going into labor that weekend.) Well I did go into labor! Oh, and I was still only like 1cm when I went into the hospital, but had a successful VBAC. Try not to get to discouraged by "progress" or lack thereof at such an early stage :)

  • I was only 1cm until 41w0d and 75% effaced, and the hospital policy was to induce at 42 weeks.  My MW stripped my membranes that day and labor started about 16 hours later!  You can go from no progress to active labor in no time at all I promise.  Keep the faith!  I hope these replies help you get/stay motivated!  You can do this!

  • Sorry you're bummed. My cervix was "high and tight" at 40wk, so not even fingertip dilated - heck he could barely reach my cervix it was so far up there! And yet, 9 days later I went into labor.

  • Ask her to stop checking you. There's no point anyway and it's stressing you out. If she really thinks she has to check you, tell her you don't want to know what she found. It means nothing, so don't give yourself the chance to dwell.
  • I first got checked at 36 weeks and was disappointed I wasn't at least 1 cm yet.  Totally psyched me out.  I've opted to do internals only every other week, and I hold no stock in them.  My MIL was told that she'd be back the following week, because she showed no progress, and she had DH that evening.  My OB said she'd see me before my next app't, because I was walking around at 3 cm, and I ended up with a failed induction and c/s at 41 1/2 weeks!  It really doesn't mean anything.

  • I echo was PP's have said-- I went from zero to labor in no time flat. I was checked on Wednesday (40w 4 days) and was not dilated a bit. Zilch. I woke up in the middle of the night (that night!) with my water breaking and instant contractions.

That was the one and only time my MW checked me. If I were you, I'd forego the cervix checks entirely. They're uncomfortable and do little to indicate when you'll go in labor.

    GL mama! :)
