It started on a Monday night... well REALLY early Tuesday morning 16 days before Alyssa was due. I was at
work and my blood sugar dropped so I left work and went and crashed at my best friend's apartment. I was asleep maybe an hour before I woke up feeling
restless and jittery like there was something important I was supposed
to be doing so I just sat there and read and paced until she got off
work and took me home. Here's about where the really mild contractions
started. When I got home I scrubbed the bathroom till it sparkled and
organized it and scrubbed the doors and the door frames. I would have
been cleaning the kitchen but I had to get some sleep before school. So
I'm at school, still contracting, and I'm thinking maybe I've just
gotta do some 'business' or these are some killer Braxton Hicks but
these suckers are starting to hurt. Then I get home and they're hurting
pretty bad by now. The night goes on and they're getting progressively
worse.... I slept maybe 3 hours waking up every half hour to fifteen
minutes when I'd contract. I get up to go to the doc and when I got up
they started being a steady 10 minutes apart. By now I'm about 99% sure
something's goin down. So we get in there and we tell my doc what's up
and he's figuring they're Braxton Hicks and is like 'oh these things
happen they're gonna happen more as you get closer bla bla bla'... and
we emphasize that these things HURT. He calls me a weenie. I agree.
Then he checks my cervix. I hear 'hmm.... hm?.... hmmmmmm' while he
prods around down there. What's up doc? I was dilated to a 2 and he
said he thought there might be a head down there. 'well let's get an
ultrasound and see if those contractions might me a little more serious
than we thought' haha than HE thought. So we get a scan and she's
breech so he sends me home making an appointment for next week saying
if the contractions last 30 seconds and are 5 minutes apart for an hour
or if I see blood to go on in. We go to Walmart to pick up a stop
watch, some fuzzy socks, and some other random stuff. I go home and try
to sleep. I fail miserably. I'm in pain so I decide not to go to school
(my fiance tried to get me to go). About 7 rolls around and I go to the
bathroom and see blood so I'm like 'alright babe, this is happening.
get your stuff together and let's go' On our way to the hospital, of
course we're both freaking out, my fiance said like 8 times 'they're
probably gonna just send you home'. We get there and ask the nurse that
checked me in about who would be delivering the baby since my doc
wasn't on call that night and she told us then she goes 'not that we'll
be delivering tonight'. It's like no one was taking me seriously. We
get in, they hook me up to some monitors, 2 different nurses check my
cervix (3-4 by now). Then they finally call in a doctor. He checks me
an hour later and I'm at a 5. He decides we need to stop my labor and
get the baby out right then. So I get stuck with a needle to stop my
labor. Then the best part.... my IV. They blew 3 veins and had to stick
me 5 times to get it. FIVE EFFING TIMES! I look like a junkie now with
my bruised veins. Then they take me to get my spinal and don't get me
wrong, it sucked, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was
gonna be. I didn't even cry :-D Then they lay me down and my fiance comes
in and sits by my head and from there it was a serious of the oddest
sensations I've ever felt..... and they tug the baby out. Micah jumped
up in time to see it. She started screaming as soon as she was out.
They cleaned her up and my fiance brought her around for me to see and I
started crying and I couldn't wipe my face cuz me arms were trapped.
Then they took her away and sewed me up. I got wheeled to the recovery
room where I swear I didn't stop shaking for a good hour or two. After
what seemed like forever my fiance finally brought Alyssa in and I got to
hold and breastfeed her for the first time. She latched on like a champ and it was THE most amazing moment of my life!

Re: Surprise C-section.... when I wanted all natural
congrats on your new outside baby
why did they decide they had to stop your labor and perform a c/s?
