In need of a middle name to go with Kadee

We have a girl name (Kadee ?????) and a boy name (Curtis Wayne) picked out, we just can't agree on a middle name for Kadee. It sounds like the traditional Katy, just with a different spelling. Any ideas?

Re: In need of a middle name to go with Kadee

  • A good idea is to spell it Katy. Kadee looks, um, wrong.

  • Ouch... that spelling is hurting my eyeballs...  I suggest a new spelling and then work on the mn.
  • I want to pronounce that as kah-DEE. I highly suggest you spell it Katy.

  • Please spell your child's name correctly. I can't picture a grown woman with the name Kadee, especially a professionally anything.. except maybe a dancer or a clown.

  • Ditto pp.  That spelling is just plain bad.  Sorry.  Your daughter will spend her entire life correcting people on how to spell her name, and it will probably be mispronounced often as well.  To me it looks like Cad-ee (like golf caddy), not Kay-tee.

    What about Katie Nicole?

  • The only person it sounds like Katy to is YOU. It is kay-DEE to everyone else. Give your child a break!

Cadence with a nn of kay-DEE is cute. Kate with the nn of Katie is cute. Even Katy is cute. Kadee is just horrible.

  • Wow...okay I'm sorry all of you feel that way, but the spelling is not changing. Kadee is a family name and we are sticking with it. Yes I understand that she will grow up one day but my great aunt was a wonderful grown up woman too with the name Kadee. I'll just get help elsewhere I guess.

You failed to put this in you original post!  Family names ARE important, but if you don't tell us that it is a family name with meaning, we automatically think you're spelling it wrong without reason.

Probably would have been wise to mention that originally.  Not that it makes me any more of a fan of Kadee, but you would have avoided the opinions on the spelling.  Is it pronounced like Katie?  Or Caddy?

I'd go with something simple to spell and pronounce.  I like Elizabeth with Katie.  Kadee.  Whatever.  Do you have any other family names that have meaning to you?

  • How about:

    Anna

    Paige

    Rebecca

    Hannah

    Leann

    May

    Here are other ideas ...

    Good luck!

  • I feel very Mean Girls because I read it to be "cad-dee"
  • I know a girl IRL named Kadee- spelled just like that. Her name is Kadee Michelle. Otherwise....

    Kadee Anna

    Kadee Anne

    Kadee Harper

    Kadee Sage

    Kadee Beth

    Kadee Marie

    Kadee Lynn

    Kadee Leigh

    Kadee Mae

Kadee strikes me as a very informal name, so I would pick an informal middle name to go with it.

  • I would use it as a middle name then

  • I didn't feel that I needed to mention where the name came from or anything because the Kadee part wasn't in question. As far as spelling...it's a name...it can be spelled any way you want it to be, there is no right or wrong spelling of a name. I guess I should also explain that we are from the south, so Katy, or Katie are all pronounced with a D anyway, just part of the accent.

The original Kadee's middle name was May, but I didn't want the whole name to be after her. Leigh is my middle name so we have thought about putting that with it too. Leigh is also a family name passed down.

Curtis Wayne is after my brother that has passed away. The baby's due date is the same date of my brother's death, so we thought it would be appropriate to name him after my brother if it's a boy.

As you can probably all tell family is very important to us, we didn't exactly wanna just pick a name out of a book or a list. However we still need something kind of old fashioned and southern to go with Kadee. Other family middle names of ladies in my family are Sue, Jo, May, Ruby, Ann, Nadine, Darla......that's all I can really think of right now. All very informal southern names.

  • I would suggest "That's Katy, with a D and two Es" as her MN, since she's going to be saying that every time she introduces herself from now until the day she dies.

  • I love that you are using a family name- I think it's great (and I LOVE your boy name)

However, I would still urge you to go with Katie. Pretty much every reply on here has been about the misspelling of the name. Of course you can name your child anything you want- you could name her Princess Consuela Bananahammock if you wanted- it doesn't mean you should.

Just my opinion- Kadee does not look like Katie at all. It looks made up, youneek and I think it would have the same wonderful meaning to your family if you used the legitimate spelling. I think Katie Sue is adorable.

  • I am so sorry that so many people here have their heads in their self-righteous a**s. I liked Kadee just fine before I read your explanation. And because you do have a good reason for it, and you DIDN'T ASK THEIR OPINIONS ON IT, they have no right to criticize or tell you to change it.

So, you asked for middle names- I think I like one syllable middle names for Kadee. Actually, I think I like all the middle names I normally don't for her name- Lynn, Rose, Jane, Ann, Grace. I do also like Mae.

    Good luck.

Right ... uh ... except for she's on a BABY NAMES board.  Where we discuss and debate baby names.  Her kid isn't born yet, there's still time to help her see the light.

Katie Mae is a beautiful name.

And fwiw, up until this past fall I lived in the south as well.  Nobody I knew down there would pronounce Kadee the same as Katie or Katy.  In fact, I think southerners would be more likely to say Kadee as "Caddy", while those up north may be more likely to read Kadee as "Katie".

  • Yikes, there are hormones flying all over this place.  I didn't realize that there were so many self-righteous pregnant people around here.  I think Kadee's a cute name & while I don't particularly care for it, I understand that you want to honor your family.  Don't change the spelling.  If someone doesn't know how to pronounce "Kadee" then it's their problem, not yours.  Now, to answer your question, here's my two cents:

    Kadee Elaine

    Kadee Renee

    Kadee Grace

    Kadee Elizabeth

    Kadee Nicole

    Goodness.

Oh-you all don't want honesty on a BABY NAMES board? Well then-it's all peaches and cream and I haven't seen a euneek spelling I didn't like.

Or how about you just learn what constructive criticism means? Confused

  • I just wanted to thank the ladies that actually answered my question about a middle name. We are taking yalls opinions into consideration. As far as everyone that thinks I should spell it differently I understand your thinking I just don't agree with you. I'm not going to change the spelling of a name I'm honoring someone with. The Kadee part is not up for debate so yall don't have to waste your energy on trying to convince me otherwise on that. I did a little research for those ladies that say they have never heard anyone with that name. Right now in Utah there are 25 people with the name Kadee, Washington has 20, California has 20, and Texas has 18. Last year alone there were over 32 babies given the name Kadee.

  • Some of us see caddy when looking at it, some of us think it would be better, katy, or katie, does that mean your gonna spell it that way? absolutley not. As strangers we are telling you that it WILL be mispronounced, what you choose to do is on you. Just a little suggestion if your getting so bent about people on here mis-pronnouncing and what not, what about everytime you go to the doctors and they call her caddy or in school, my suggestion is tough up your skin because its gonna happen and it will most likley piss you off.

    32 wrongs don't make a right.

And just because you want it pronounced Katie doesn't mean the parents using that spelling are going for that sound. I still stand by my first point. I would pronounce Kadee as Kah-DEE or Caddy. It is still honoring someone to use an altered spelling. In Jewish culture (correct me if I'm wrong here, ladies) people use initials to honor relatives. But do whatever you want. It doesn't affect any of us, just your daughter.

Yeah, I was referring to the fact that it would be Kadee's problem because she will be the one correcting people her whole life. Not that she wouldn't be able to pronounce her own name. I thought that was pretty obvious, but maybe I should have typed it slower for you.
