If I can find some wall stickies/double-sided tape that won't pull paint off the door (where we're hanging Noah's), that's what I will do. Ribbon is pretty much out because I don't want to put nail holes in the door, and I don't want the letters sliding around every time I open/close it!
Caleb's are hung by ribbon, but it's black and there are no bows tied to the top of them. I think it looks okay. Another option would be to buy picture hanger hooks and hot glue them to the backs and then hang them from nails.
Allie's letters do not have ribbon. My husband used his Dremmel and made round holes (obviously not all the way through) in the back of each letter and then we hung them on nails on the wall.
Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in.
& Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.

Re: Wall letters
This is what we did too.
I got the letters from Michaels and they came with holes in the back.
