Pregnant after 35

leg cramps!! *@&^*@&$#(&$

OUCH!   the last two nights in a row I have jumped out of bed in the middle of the night due to severe leg cramping.  On Fri night it was my calf and last night it was my inner thigh.  It hurts soooo bad!

Anyone else experience this and what did you do about it?  I have a hard enough time sleeping right now as it is without these lovely surprises popping up....HELP

  • Bananas!  And lots and lots of water!  Leg cramps may be a potassium deficiency or dehydration - bananas have potacium and water...well, we all know water.  :)

I'm sorry that you got leg cramps - and in the middle of the night!

  • Ditto bananas and water, plus YOGA!  No joke, a little regular stretching does help, and prenatal practice is designed for just those sorts of things.

  • I had them bad with my past 2 pregnancies, and i can only echo the "bananas and water" calls above! They suck, but they do go away as soon as baby arrives, well they did for me anyways
  • I had a leg cramps a few times when pregnant the first time.....it happened when I flexed my feet like for a stretch.....try not to do this....probably happens when you are sleeping because you are relaxed and you flex your feet.  The other person said bananas...yes this helps!  I know they hurt - the leg cramps I mean, not the bananas!  Smile  Wake up your hubby/so and have them massage your leg to help the cramp!
  • Good to know info .. adding bananas to my diet to avoid leg cramps.

  • I'm lurking over here but had these all.the.time when I was pg. In addition to the bananas and water make sure you are getting enough calcium.  I was told to make sure I drank a glass of milk everyday and it helped significantly.

  • I just wanted to add that I had these when pregnant with my first and I called my Dr. to check on proper potassium amounts.  Learned that pregnancy leg cramps are NOT caused by potassium deficency but instead you need to take a calcium/magnesium supplement.
  • Oh, I had this! I hated it!  Ugh!

The only thing that helped was staying hydrated and keeping my legs and feet warm (wore socks).  Mostly it was my calves. Awful pain. I hope this doesn't continue.

  • I had them really bad. I actually fell out of the bed one night. I recommend drinking lots of water and try to flex your feet while laying in bed at night before you go to bed. If you are laying on your back, try to bend your toes back towards the front of your calf to stretch the back of your calf muscle. I had foot and calf cramps and then some in my groin towards the end.
