Your Biggest Mommy Fails So Far

I think we all have moments where we feel like we have failed as a mother or just done completely asinine things without thinking.  What are some of yours?

I have three I can think of right off the top of my head.

1.  When DS was still using his infant car seat, DH kept that in his car.  I had the convertible one in my car.  DH drops DS off at daycare in the morning and would leave the car seat at daycare because they would put DS in there to nap during the day.  When I pick DS up from there at the end of the day, I would just throw the infant car seat in the back of my vehicle and put him in the car seat I have.  Well, one day, I set the infant car seat down on the ground to put Noah in the convertible car seat and just drove away.  It took me about 15 minutes to realize I was missing something.  Thank God another mommy saw it and took it back into the daycare for us.  Ooops.

2.  My father passed away recently.  His viewing started at 4pm and we had to be there at 3:30pm.  We changed Noah?s diaper before we left to go to the funeral home.  After the viewing, we all went out to eat and didn?t get home until about 9:30pm.  To my horror, it hit me all of the sudden that I hadn?t changed his diaper all day.  Thank God it was only pee in there.  I still felt horrible.

3.  A few days ago I was holding DS while walking to our bedroom.  I guess I misjudged where exactly I was walking and ended up banging his against the doorway.  I think that was the absolute worst I have felt about anything since being a mom.

Re: Your Biggest Mommy Fails So Far

  • DS rolled off the couch one day and our bed the next.  My husband only knows about the bed because he was there.  He gave me so much crap about it that i still havent told him about DS falling off the couch.  I felt like the worst mommy of the year that week!  I still feel bad about it even though i know it happens to almost everyone at some point.

  • I will join you in the diaper situation, i have a DD that is 13 years old, when i had DS i completly forgot that he used diapers and that i needed to change it until the nurse walked in and chage it and then i realize OMG i completly forgot about the Diaper.

Also hit DS head with the kitchen lamp as i was trying to get him out of him Bumbo, i felt horrible about that and almost cryed with him!

  • Haha!! #1 and 3 are hilarious. I'm so sorry about your father though..

    Mine:

When DD was 1 week old I was still learning the whole diaper trick, so I didn't know it was a bad idea to take the diaper off and leave her there naked while I got another diaper. She peed all over herself and then all of a sudden pooped everywhere! It was on her new crib bedding and all over her. It was that runny kind too. I was freaking out and didn't know where to start with cleaning everything, so I just took her to take a bath. I called my mom crying because I felt like such a failure lol.

When DD was still pretty wobbly at sitting on her own I had her on the floor next to me sitting in front of a toy. We have an area rug over our hard wood floors, but the floor is still pretty hard. I looked away for a second and then her a thud - she fell over and hit her head on the floor. Mommy fail!

I was putting her in her crib to change her and lost my grip and accidentally dropped her in there... big fail.

  • My DH almost dropped Hudson when he was only a week old.  He was holding him over the toilet while I got his bathwater ready.  Hudson was wiggly and DH was very nervous about holding him.  Luckily he caught him.  That was the scariest moment of our life with Hudson because he would have been BADLY hurt if he would have fallen.

I think I have kinda felt like a fail lately because Hudson has been waking at 5am and he is hungry.  So we will go in and fix him a formula bottle and give it to him in his crib.  He falls right back asleep when he is finished and will sleep another 2 or 3 hours usually.  I just feel really bad about doing that (don't ask me why) but have enjoyed getting some extra sleep.

  • one time i was putting DS in his swing. its one of those graco ones that has the big chunk of plastic right in the way.  i wasnt paying attention and my DD was screaming and im trying to get out the door.  i was putting him down for a minute while i was getting everything else ready, and smacked his head right into that plastic piece.  epic fail!

I think this happens a lot.

Mine would be pinching my DD with her paci holder. I've done it twice but the first time was the worst. Oh and when she was a few weeks old I thought I could cut her nails with the little baby nail clippers and I cut her finger :( I cried, and I didn't even cry when she got her shots.

  • I think the worst I've felt happened one day when G had just begun toddling around a little better. He pulled open one of the bottom drawers in the kitchen, which he'd never done before so it surprised me. He pulled out the tin foil, and I shouted for him to drop it and dashed across the room. I pulled the box out of his little hand, and in the process, sliced his palm open with the sharp edge of the foil box. He bled, and we both cried. He was fine, but I still feel terrible.

edit: btw if you have a series of drawers in your kitchen that are one on top of another, you can slide a yard stick through all the handles and it makes it difficult for the child to open the drawers and get in them. It works well and only scratches the drawer fronts minimally.

  • DH and I farm (in case you missed it the first 80 million time I've posted) and late this fall he needed help on the farm doing vet checks on the cows. (The vet comes and checks them all out to make sure they are healthy for the winter) For the first 100 cows DS was asleep outside the pen in his stroller in the shade. He started fussing when we got to the last 10 or so cows, so I put a blanket down in the feed bunk about 3 feet behind me and put him on it, so I could finish up with the cows (there was no way that the cows could get to DS, and the bunk had tall sides, so I thought he was safe) A few minutes later, my BIL who was in the next pen said "Umm....Huber, you might want to check on T."

DS has a rock in his mouth. Even worse than the rock was the massive amount of cow feed (and something that looked suspiciously like manure) on his face. . I nearly puked. I cleaned him up and gave him his bottle to at least get the taste out of his mouth... But he could care less.

  • I didn't buckle him into his infant carseat once and DH did the same thing once as well.  Thank God we didn't get in an accident!!!!!!!

I did this! We were getting ready to go so i laid her in her seat and set a blanket on top. I really meant to go back after our older DD was ready but DH grabbed the seat and I forgot. We realized about 15mins later and pulled over the car but I felt awful!

I also cut her thumb when clipping her nails and she didn't even flinch, but I felt horrible.

Lastly, I have to share a moment a friend had: We have a car and 2 kids, so picking up anything big is a struggle. We asked a friend of ours who has a mini van to help us pick up a new highchair and baby gate from babysrus. On the way there our friend, me and the baby went in his van and DH and DD1 went in our car.

On the way back I sent the baby with DH in the car since her seat snaps in easier. I told our friend but he must have not heard. When we got back to our house, he opened the van door and started freaking out. I finally figured out that he thought we forgot the baby. He will never be allowed to forget that.
