Can bending over too much hurt baby?

This may be silly, but I can't think straight after the morning I've had (see other post about my AWFUL morning). I was bent over all day yesterday pulling staples out of the hard wood floors we're having refinished today.  I woke up this morning with crampy feelings in my lower belly area...almost like I did too many crunches.

I'm just curious if bending over for that long could have been bad? I didn't really think about it until today, now that I'm feeling it.

Re: Can bending over too much hurt baby?

  • I don't think so.  I think it would hurt you more than the baby.  Were you on hands and knees?  One of the exercises we do in Bradley are pelvic rocks where you get on your hands and knees and rock your pelvis back and forth to help get the baby in the right position.

I know that I can't sit slouched over or leaning forward too well anymore because there is just no room, but it's not hurting the baby, only my stomach and intestines.

  • I'm pretty sure it's only going to hurt you, like it seems to have done. It just cramps up the baby's living space, so I'm not thinking any harm can be done in that. p.s. I hope your day is better from here on, I would be upset if my Monday started that way too!

  • I read your awful morning post, I feel bad for you! I would think that if you had really hurt yourself or LO you would have known it when you fell. Probably just sore and bruised as all get out. However, I would probably call my OB and tell them I fell. If you can run in real quick and maybe hear baby's hb for reassurance, you'll feel better.

I was sitting on a foot stool, leaning over between my legs basically.  Ya, it definitely felt like there was no room...but it had to get done. haha.  I guess I got my "ab" workout yesterday!

  • You wont hurt the baby but you may hurt your back!  You also could have over-worked yourself.  I get a little crampy when I do too much physical activity.

  • Im glad you asked this question, were moving in 2 days and I've been packing for the past few days and I started to notice that I have a weird crampy feeling in my lower belly, kinda scared me.. But I think its only hurting us and not LO.
  • Poor thing.  No, the baby is fine.  What you've done is put more pressure on your uterus.  The muscle were already sore due to them making room for baby, and when we do things like/bend over, that puts more pressure which adds to our discomfort.  When I lean over for more then a few seconds, I have that same problem and the baby doesn't care for the position to much.
