I am currently past my DD. I am very uncomfortable and would LOVE baby to come right now but i know we will have the best labor and delivery I i just wait for him to come on his own. My induction is scheduled for Feb 16th (12 days past my DD). My problem is that i am so worried about the baby's health. I made the mistake of "googling" things and heard all their horror stories about babies being born too late, being too big, having problems with the placenta, cerebal palsy etc. Everyone else i know that had inductions had it done at 6 or 7 days past their due date. Do you have any good stories about just "waiting it out" for baby to come? Encouraging words? Thanks in advance.
Re: Babies born after 41 weeks?
i had my son at 41 weeks 1 day- I would have been induced but he came on his own. I think 8 days late is also the average for first babies (or had bee before inductions became so common). My mom had 6 babies- all were late but one who was 2 weeks "early." My grandma had 12 and she jokes that all her babies were a month later than her due date.
Incidentally, my ob was offering to induce me at 39 weeks (both dr in the practice were going to be away over the weekend and they were offerig me an induction on a thursday night to insure that i had one of them deliver my baby) and I passed. Again when i reached 40 weeks, they offered an induction and i passed because I wanted my son to be born when it was time. When he was born he was just 5 pounds and 15 ounces but perfectly healthy. I'm sure he would have been fine at 39 weeks but he would have been even tinier. I think he stayed put those extra days to put some more meat on his bones!
Hopefully you go into labor on your own. Good luck!
