I love my Asics 2100 series. I have several of them -2130,40,50... However, I recommend going to your local running store for assistance. There are many factors in choosing a good running shoe that works for you.

I agree! I also love Asics, but they may not work for you so try on a bunch of different kinds.
Everybody is different and there's a ton of variation in shoes (amount of cushion, high arch, flat feet, etc). You really need to go to a running store and get fitted--They'll watch you walk and see what your gait pattern is and make some recommendations. They'll also let you try on different ones and run around in them (outside in the summer, my store has a treadmill for the winter) to see how they feel on your feet so you can get what's best for you.
I HATE Aasics-- too stiff for me. I am in love with Saucony... very flexible, slightly wider for my foot, breathe so well, and my feet are super happy even during my longest runs.
Go to a running store and get fitted--you'll be amazed at the knowledge they have and you'll feel a lot better about the $100 investment knowing that it was personalized for you:)
Good luck!

FWIW for all of you Aasics lovers-- my SIL is an avid runner that does crazy marathons and iron man competitions and all that-- said that I was nuts and that Aasics were like the best thing since sliced bread!
I recommend one that is right for you. How's that for a vague answer?
As PPs said...go to a running store (not D!ck's or Sports Authority, but a real running store) and get fitted.
I love Mizunos. I hate Asics. I run anywhere between 1500-2500 miles per year. I'm sure there are plenty of people that love Asics and hate Mizunos. What I'm getting at is that everyone is different. I like the harder, more structured feel of Mizunos. Asics made me feel like I had couches on my feet.
You won't know what you like until you try different pairs on. There are so many issues that need to be taken into account when selecting a running shoe. Things like overpronantion, supination, cushioning, how high or low your arch is, etc.

This is great advice. The running store can let you know how you walk/jog (whether you overpronate, for example) so they can get you the right support for your shoe. They put me in BROOKS about six years ago and I haven't gone back to anything else. I run regularly and try to do at least two half marathons per year. I am so grateful for having a good shoe that is designed for my foot.
Brooks for me too! I also went to a specialty running store. The 16 year olds at Footlocker have no idea what they're doing. It's all about what's comfortable for you. For example my runners are always a size and a half larger than my regular shoes. Weird but it works for my wide flat bunion'd feet.

Ditto all of the above... get fitted; I am a Brooks junkie.
