Woman's Work Moving (closing village location)

I just received an e-mail saying they're closing the store in the village and will re-open by appt. only. Here is an excerpt:

With much anticipation, I will be moving a woman's work to 4101 Greenbriar, Suite 210. There, we will continue our specialties breastfeeding support and education, breast pump rentals and sales, baby wearing and slings, bra fitting and maternity supports. All will be available by appointment.

  • I wonder if there will be any other local store that will pick up the slack as the go-to place for pump supplies and nursing clothes? sad days.

She's keeping the pump supplies and I imagine she'll keep the nursing tank tops at least.  I think she's just getting tired of the really retail part of her business.

  • I'm sad to see them close because they did have some cute things...however...a couple of times when I went in there the sales staff was less than helpful.  In addition, I think with the boom in people doing Internet shopping (myself included) you can find a wide array of the same brands in cheaper prices and better selection.  My breast pump was lots cheaper online, and while I do believe in supporting local business, I think they need to be fairly priced, etc.  I also thought they had a decent selection of slings, but found a better price and pattern at an online store, and it's hard to say no when you get free shipping.  Maybe they can't compete with the online retail anymore?
  • I have a store credit...must go this week and use it!
  • On the one hand this makes me sad, but Sandi is an amazing LC and if the change allows her to focus more on LC and breastfeeding support then it will be good.  I hope plenty of new moms still find their way to her.

  • That's a shame. I am sure it has a lot to do with online retail competition...but most of all, probably because the rent in the village is INSANE!

SO true. And frankly people do more browsing than shopping there, it seems like.

Still, it makes me sad because they were a good spot for information on slings and breastfeeding. Getting properly fitted for my nursing bra there was a godsend. It'll be so much harder to get those bras -- they're the only place in town than had my size in a nursing bra -- with them closed.

  • She's keeping all the BFing related things in their new location, so you can still get fitted there. The new location is in the same building with Pediatric Medical Group, so I bet she's going to stay super busy with referrals from the pedis there.

I wouldn't bet on it. After all, it's not like you could just pop-in after a pedi appt, because you have to make an appt! Sorry, there's no way I'd make an appt to buy a bra. I'd rather order a dozen online and make a bunch of returns - and no other store in town carries my size in nursing bras.

Just to bump this thought again, she is keeping most of our favorite parts of the business going. Bras, rentals, etc. Moving from the village might have been a better topic title. Sorry for that.

Sandi helped me through a really rough second nursing experience. She helped me figure out how I handle the difficult situation. The best advice she ever gave me was that it was never too late; just keep offering when I could. We were able to start real breastfeeding after 6 mos. of trying and continue for several month. She's great. Glad she'll continue to provide all the usual support we rely on in a new place.

Same here.  She's absolutely amazing and I just like being around her.  She's got such a calming personality that it just makes you believe you really can do it when you're around her.

I said that because that's my pedi group and I've talked several times with Dr A about their lack of an LC.  I know when I was bringing Marion in for weigh checks, it would have been nice to have coordinated weight checks and a visit with an LC.

  • I got the email too and was saddened by the news. I'm more of a pop in when I can kinda person and though they were more expensive, I did buy my sling and nursing bra from them since they helped me out with the fittings. Glad she'll still be available for future mommies as well, just wish there was some way to keep the store open. Guess I didn't spend enough there.
