Crib/Stroller recs (repost from the Nest)

Hi ladies. The following is a repost from the Detroit Nest board (hopefully that's allowed).

I am expecting in June and expecting to work up until the moment my water breaks (sigh). So my husband and I have been trying to look for some of the bigger, more important baby things. Like a crib. And a stroller. And I am about to eat my arm already. Every time I think I like something, I find out: they have discontinued the model; they don't have any colors I like or (more so with cribs) there are at least 5 reviews about someone's child doing injury to himself in that thing. So, as I said, I'm about to eat my arm.

Please share--what cribs/strollers do you have? Do you like them? Would you recommend them?

Any input is much appreciated! You could save my arm!

  • We love our Babi Italia Hamilton crib.  Pricy but worth it.  I was pretty picky...

I have the Chicco Cortina travel system.  Seems to work fine but I've only used it once.

  • Congrats on the baby! Picking out gear was my toughest pre-push task because there are so many choices and differing reviews. Our kids (27mo and 7mo) re both in Davinci cribs. We loved the look and the ability to convert to a bed, but the finish tends to scratch easier than I'd hoped. Didn't stop us from buyinanother for kid #2 though ;)lol I second the Chicco Cortina travel system rec. We've had ours through both kids. Super easy to install car seat in the car (I taught both sets of grandparents). Our stroller is used almost daily in no-snow weather and at least a few time during the week in snowy weather, and it's taken the beating and still looks in good condition. I can unfold it in a parking lot one-handed (took some practice :) ). Also, I like the amount of basket space. Good luck! Narrow down your choices to your favorites, then find a store that carries tem to play with them all in person.
  • We have the Stokke Sleepi Crib

  • We have the Kendall crib from PBK.

For a stroller we have the baby jogger city mini. I LOVE it. I wanted a stroller that was light and easy to put in the car. I can pick it up with one hand while holding the baby in the other to get it into the car. I'm very happy with our purchase.

  • I would rec buying the baby bargains book though and check their ratings. It really helped us make a decision.

We have a bonavita crib and love it. No scratches after 15 months.

    I have two strollers

a chicco travel system that I didn't care for and is for sale right now

also a baby jogger city summit that I love but it is for jogging also so it is bulky but I love the city mini and city select.

  • I also have a bonavita crib and love it.  It's now on baby #2 and still looks brand new.  It was important that the crib be extremely sturdy, which this is.  You can shake it and it will barely move

We got a chicco travel system the first time around.  I love the carseat, although we really didn't use the stroller too often.  If you plan to have a second baby, you might consider buying a stroller that convert into a double.  I have the baby jogger City Select which I LOVE!!  It comes as a single stroller, but there's all sorts of attachments you can buy, one of which makes it a double stroller.  It's somewhat pricey (although there's really good deals on the 2010 model), but in the long run it'd save you from buying a new stroller if/when you have another baby

  • I have the Baby Itali Eastside crib from BRU and love it.

I have a Graco travel system that came with the Snugride.  I also have a smaller umbrella stroller.

  • Thanks! I have never before had too much choice in everything--I usually just picked the thing or things I liked and moved on. But every time I like something, there is at least one horrifying review! Ugh!

I did hear that Da Vinci cribs chip easily. We want a white one, and I'm a little bit afraid that it would be really visible that way. :-(

  • Tarah, I love your crib! I've been salivating over it for a while, but since my husband is already horrified that I want to spend too much money on a stroller, he'll probably divorce me if I ask for a an expensive crib as well. :-) But it's lovely!

  • Actually, the Eastside is the one crib I've liked the most so far (saw it yesterday at BRU)--it seems to be a good combination of price, design and sturdiness (I shook it and it didn't wobble). And it comes in pretty white!

  • I have a DaVinci Kalani crib. It's not painted but it doesn't show too much wear and tear. There are a few nicks, but DH and I are clumsy. I will say the dresser is kind of crappy. The crib itself is very sturdy and nice; the dresser is cheap and flimsy. :(

We have a Graco MetroLite stroller. I don't like it for many, many, many reasons. I am hoping to upgrade to a better stroller this spring. If you go to BBB  you can try the strollers out and even fold them up and see if they fit in your trunk!
