When is a good time to start buying furniture and other 'stuff'? What if you come across a super amazing deal...even at 13 weeks. Too soon to buy? I am a little gun shy... after losing before, I still am not 100% convinced this guys staying around. I know, I know...
Re: When to start purchasing 'stuff'
I waited until my 20 week ultrasound. We also had a loss and I felt the same way. It took me a loong time to settle into the idea that this one was "going to take" I would say, whenever you feel ready. You will know. It won't be because it was a great deal, you will buy something because you feel ready. I cried when I got in my car from making my first purchase. I was scared to death.. and excited because I was letting myself believe that we would make it long enough to need clothes....hormones, gotta love em.
I'm not buying anything major until after my 20 w/k u/s. I have a history of loss and I'm a little gunshy. Although I do have a great deal of stuff from my first so I don't need much.
If it's on major sale and something small like clothes, blankets, bottles, I'd grab them. I don't see the harm in it. It's why I have a lot now from my first. While I never got to use it the price was right and now I have. Save the receipts in case something does happen or if it doesn't bother you hide it in a closet until you need it.
It's personal preference I guess.
We said we were going to hold off till the 20 week ultrasound, which ended up being at 21.5 weeks, which didn't give us much really because my anterior placenta kept them from getting clear images of most of her organs.
At 23 weeks, I said screw it. At this point, she's coming. If for some reason she comes early, she would survive outside the womb. Nothing in life is guaranteed, but I am comfortable with the odds at this point
When to buy isn't really a question someone else can answer for you, it's more of an emotional decision as to when you think you feel comfortable doing it.
I've got one of those planning personalities, I like to have everything ready in advance. It was killing me not preparing at 13, 15, even 18 weeks. But, my fear of having a room full of baby stuff and no baby due to a problem kept me from moving ahead back then.
Go ahead and get your registry ready if you feel the need to "nest". Start researching what you want in a crib, travel system, pack n play, etc. Get it all ready so when you DO feel comfortable, you can run out and buy it, or keep an eye on it for sale prices
I've lost a baby at almost 14 weeks about a year ago. I was nervous to buy anything at first, but with the situation my husband and I are in (stationed overseas with limited furniture options), we don't have much of a choice. We bought nursery furniture at 16 weeks because we saw a set at the shop on base that we liked and it was a good deal. I was afraid if we didn't buy it, someone else would and we'd be SOL. It's really difficult here for that reason.
But we had our 20 week ultrasound and everything is perfect. Stroller and carseat are next.
I say buy when you feel ready.

If you're buying furniture I recommend finding out how long the order time is--can be 10+ weeks, in which case count backwards from due date and give yourself a couple of weeks to get it put together.
As for everything else, I waited til after the shower to buy anything else I thought I needed.
I think with the first we bought around 16 weeks. Now with this one, we don't need the bigger things. (crib, stroller, carseat). With this one we just bought our first item, going home outfit, I want to say either 24-25 weeks.
It is different with everyone, you just have to do what you feel right.
