I second Patti Heimlich. www.doula-training.com. She was with me for the natural delivery of my first baby and we will be hiring her again for baby #2 due in April.
Hi there. I would recommend going to doulamatch and searching your area/zip code. It has a wealth of information on there, doulas who are available for your edd, what their experience is, and client testimonials.
I am a doula who is listed on there, but not sure if I serve your area. There are also many local Meet The Doula/MaterniTea's that are held monthly around Houston. I believe our next one will be Feb. 13th at the ICAN meeting. It is a time where women can meet many doulas at one time to see which is a good fit for her needs/beliefs and her personality.
Some doulas 'specialize' in single moms, others VBACs, still others, multiples... others don't have a 'specialty' but attract a certain type of woman who wants a certain type of birth (i.e. medicated vs unmedicated, homebirth vs hospital, etc...)
I highly recommend interviewing a few doulas, even if it is just by phone, in order to get a feel for the different personalities and beliefs of different doulas. You truly want a good fit for YOU when inviting a person into your birthing room.
Good luck and pm me if you have specific questions/want some personal recommendations for doulas in your area/your needs.
I didn't use a doula but I just logged on because I wanted to let everyone know that I really liked the massage services of Leslie at Houston Pregnancy Massage, which is the group of doulas and massage technicians headed up by Patti Heimlich.
