Testing formula

When testing a different formula, how long should you keep little on on it before making a decision to switch or not to switch?  In other words, should you try it for a couple of feedings, a day, a week?  How long does it take for a formula to produce it's results in your LO?

Re: Testing formula

  • You should wait at least a week to allow the other formula to leave the baby's system. You may see results as soon as the first feeding, depending on why you are switching, or it could take until the other formula is completely out of the baby's system to see the full effects. If the issue you are trying to fix dramatically worsens on the new formula, then I would not keep baby on it.

  • I guess it depends on why you are switching. We had to switch twice. The first time we went from similac advanced to enfamil gentlease. We saw a DRAMATIC difference within 24 hours with a full turn around in three days. However the results were short lived.

We switched again to Enfamil Nutramigen. This was a longer and more difficult transition. Took about three to four days to see improvements with full effect in seven days. Now things are great! Hope that helps
