Pg moms - Any tips for the exhaustion?

I'm very early pg with #2 and am SO stinking tired in the afternoons. DH is out of the country this week so it's me and DD alone plus I work full time and am taking MBA classes.

I used to find caffeine to help me through the tiredness, but now what?

  • Nap whenever you get a moment.  Even if it means eating at your desk so you can use your lunch hour to nap.  I'm a SAHM so instead of cleaning the house while DD napped I napped with her during my 1st trimester.  My energy came back around 12 weeks or so.  Hang in there and congrats!

  • Taking naps when DD napped was the only thing that got me through 1st trimester.  I didn't care what the house looked like or how high the laundry got.  Things are much better now.  :)

  • Nap whenever you can. (Even taking 15 minutes to doze off in the ladies' lounge helped on the really bad days.) Go to bed earlier so you get more sleep at night.

I didn't give up caffeine completely, so that was my last-ditch resource, but it sounds like you don't want to do that.

  • I had to start drinking coffee again.  I pretty much cut it out a few weeks ago and now am having one cup a day and it had made a difference.  I have also been going to bed at 8-ish.  The thing that keeps me going is remembering that 2nd tri is much better.

  • What the other girls said.  But, im not sure for a working mom.  I'm a SAHM and i will say my house wasnt as clean as i would have liked because i was laying down and resting while she was.  It got better but the exhaustion is definitely back now.  Just in a different form.  I get so tired after chasing her for hours.  I count down the moments until nap time.

  • I've been napping when DS is napping and we spend time snuggling on the couch reading books.  I work full time too (doing overtime now too...ugh), so I'm in bed super early just to make it through the day.

  • I still give myself two servings of caffeine a day.  I'd have horrible headaches if I didn't.  I also have been going to bed much earlier (not too long after DS goes down) when I can.

When your husband comes back, make sure he takes over as much as possible.  MH does almost all of the nighttime duties when he can.  He was sick at the end of the week this week and it about killed me to do it all myself.  I don't know how single moms manage!

  • I didn't give up caffeine this time around. I still allow myself a few cups of coffee a day or else I would never make it through the day.

I'm a SAHM so I also try to nap during DD's 3 hour nap each day.

I'm just now starting to feel less exhausted. Hang in there, it will eventually get easier!
  • I'm 27 weeks now and have a 14 month old son and work 13 hour days.   It has been an easy pregnancy for the most part but now it has gotten really hard.  I find asking for help is the best way to get through it.  Luckily my husband and family are great so I get help if I need it.  Also going to bed much earlier once the little one is down helps a lot.  Hope you feel better!

ps.  this pregnancy i was told to drink a cup of a coffee a day to help with my headaches, so I have my cup every morning which helps a lot too!

  • I would take a nap while DS watched an Elmo video. I would also make sure to try and nap when DS did.

  • I nap the entire time she naps!

Luckily during 1st tri she took two naps but now only 1 nap and its hard.  I also go to bed around 10pm.

I do laundry and light cleaning when she is awake (sometimes put on sesame street) but I can;t sacrifice the nap at this point

Totally doing a drive-by post - hardly ever on here anymore - to say congrats to you :)  I don't know if you remember me at all from before - but congrats on #2!

  • Thanks for posting it. I am having the same issue and today was the first REALLY tough day. DH is also away on business.

Finally I called my parents (who don't know I am PG) and asked them to just take her so I could sleep.
