Basically, I have developed this uber charming pimp limp in the last two weeks. Doing any one thing for too long causes excruciating pain in my butt/hip area, and changing positions is also really painful. I know I have to keep moving/working out for my own wellness and sanity's sake, but everything other than swimming really seems to make it worse. By the end of the day, my limp is ridiculous. I was reading online and I'm pretty sure it's PPP, but I don't know. I guess I need to go see a chiro or a PT or something. Has anybody else had this?
Sigh. It's going to be a long 3 months!
Re: Posterior Pelvic Pain, anybody?? vent!!
vtmezzo - I feel your pain! Literally! I also wrote about this in the post below and what you're describing sounds exactly like what I have. I ended up going to Capitol Spine and Pain center (upon referral from my OB) and the doctor diagnosed me with sacroiliac joint dysfunction (it's also sometimes referred to more generally as posterior pelvic pain). Google it, and you can read all about it. It's pretty common in pregnancy. Basically, I can't walk for more than 5 minutes, stand for more than 10 minutes and even sitting for more than 30 minutes is uncomfortable. By the end of the day I was in tears from the pain. I've got the limp too. Anyway, the doctor referred me to a PT since they can't put me on any anti-inflammatories and I started therapy on Tuesday. I'm going to go a couple times this week and next and see how I do. They also told me to get this sacroiliac joint belt which I ordered online. I talked with a woman I know who had this belt when she was pregnant and she said the belt did wonders for her pain. She was able to walk and move around pretty normally after she started wearing it. I can't wait to get it.
Anyway, if you want more info. you can email me - audreyhamilton77 at yahoo dot com. The annoying part is, everyone keeps telling me it'll go away after I deliver - great. Two more months and I'm only going to get bigger!
I was just trying to research this morning to figure out what to call this. I think I have it too, but I'm still in the first trimester!! I've had problems with hypermobile hips in the past (popping in and out). So it makes sense that it would get worse during pregnancy. But this seems awful early.
My pain isn't horrible. It's more like a dull ache. And very stiff when I walk and bend.
Pre-pregnancy when I had a similar problem, in physical therapy they tought me to pop my hip back into place by putting a largeish ball (smaller than basketball but bigger than softball) that had some give between my knees and pushing on it while laying on my back with knees bent. I've also had DH put his hands between my knees and push out while I'm pushing in. This forces my hips back out and I can hear and feel them pop back in. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.
I also did work with the evil resistance bands to strengthen my hip, which I should probably start doing again.
If you find an effective treatment, please let me know. My orthopedic doctor doesn't accept my new insurance, so I have been trying to avoid a visit.
