Bedrest question...WWYD?

This may be dumb and I will prolly get flamed, but I'm kinda torn.  We have friends that are having  small super bowl party today (they live about 10 mins from us)  They have invited us and told me that they have a spot where I'll be able to lay down, since as of Friday I've been put on bedrest due to high blood pressure.  Would you just stay at home/do you think the 10 mins drive and the party would be too much.  Or do you think it would ok?  I just spent the night in the hospital (friday night) so I don't want to end up there again... WWYD?

Re: Bedrest question...WWYD?

  • I know its really hard ( I was on bedrest and hospital bedrest) but I wouldn't go. In my head at least, if something happened while I was there, I would be really mad at myself. And espically since you were just in the hospital Friday night - I would lay low tonight. I do know how hard it is (I missed Thanksgiving, my birthday and had the babies Christmas Eve) but I would definitley err on the side of safety.

  • I wouldnt go. I was in the hospital and released twice for the same issues. I was supposed to be on home bed rest but would get up here and there for food and even went out to eat. I ended up having to be stuck in the hospital on bedrest until i delivered. Being in the hospital sucked but it was the only way for me to truly relax.

  • As fun as the party would be, like pp, I don't think I would go either...there's a reason you're on bed rest and you have to respect that for your sake and the baby's sake.

  • Ok - so I'm the minority here and you'll have to make the decision and live with whatever the outcome is, BUT -- to me going out and being around people I enjoy and having something else to think about while still having a spot to lay low seems like a way to lower your blood pressure. It would be fun, relaxing, and a good mental health break. I would probably go but make sure that I still follow the rules while there and also make sure you and H agree that if x, y, or z happen that it's time to go, no questions asked. Go but don't be stupid, ya know. That's kind of the way I see it.

Good luck with whatever you choose and I hope it all goes well.

  • I think it depends on said party. Obviously I am fairly certain you would be fine for a 10 minute car ride, especially if you recline the seat. Now, at said party are you going to be more likely to get involved with watching the game ie excitable? If so, you might want to stay home, but if being in the presence of friends will help you relax, then it might be a good thing for you.
  • Having just been thru pre-e issues myself, I absolutely would not go. My BP spiked if there was activity around me, even enjoyable people and things. I ended up in the hospital overnight even after birth for merely spending time with my LO in the NICU... she was doing fine at that point but just driving to the hospital was enough activity to send my BP back up to 204/105 and get me an overnight stay. A Super Bowl party is far more activity even if you're sitting or laying down the whole time and it's just not worth it.

  • I got permission to travel and attend things as my BP tolerated it while I was on strict bedrest. DH had to take my BP every hour and I had my OB's permission.

If it were me, I'd go and just monitor my BP while we were there.

  • So did you go, or not? I am super curious now!
  • Thank you ladies for all your advice! We ended up going (after calling and asking how many people and double checking that I'd have a place where I could be on my side, etc)  It was nice to get out and I really feel like it helped.  Also it helped that I didn't really care who won since my Bears were in it, so no stress from the game itself.  My bp seemed to stay in check the whole time,  and I'm glad that we ended up going.

So today DH put on my super stricked bedrest today.. lol, he got the WII and put it in our room (so I can watch stuff off netflix) and the laptop is in here also-plus all my books and a few movies.  So day 2 of bedrest at home.. here I come. :)
