How many days post partum are you?
How is the pain now and how has it changed since the c-section?
I am 3 days post partum... I felt WONDERFUL the day after... then yesterday was kind of rough. I'm taking Motrin and Percocet, but standing/walking is still very painful. I feel great when I sit or lie down.
Anyone in the same boat?
Re: those who have had a c-section
I'm 19 days PP and still have some pain where I'm assuming I have stitches on the inside. My incision stings a little bit, but honestly, I feel great.
I felt pretty good the first day PP until they made me get out of bed. My OB said that it was because some of the drugs they put through the epi can last up to 24 hours. When the nurses offered the meds, I took them and it really helped me stay on top of the pain. I also make myself take 1-2 walks through L&D each day. I had the most pain with walking when I forgot to take little steps and to move slowly. Some days were better than others, but it gets easier each day.
I'm 9 days PP and having little pain. Mostly if I overdo it and pick up something I shouldn't or bend back too far. I am still on Perocet and Motrin but using it very sparingly.
Honestly, the pain afterwards wasn't bad at all- I even got an upper resp infection and have been coughing my head off for days (now treated with Zithromax) and even when coughing the pain was not all that horrible.
I was scared to have the first bowel movement but take the Colace at the hospital and you will be fine. I even bought a bottle for home just in case.
A few surprises: Even though I was up and out of bed that same night- I ended up with severe swelling in my feet, ankles, and legs. It is finally starting to go down. I could barely wear shoes this entire time and went and bought compression socks to help ease the pain. Also, I got my one and only hem from the entire pregnancy this week. So not fun. Bring home lots of extra mesh panties and huge pads from the hospital.
Good luck ladies! It really isn't bad at all.
With my first c-section, my recovery was really quick. By 7 days PP, I was out visiting people and walking around running errands. I was also no longer taking any pain medication besides ibuprofen. I felt great.
This time around I've had a really lousy recovery. I'm almost 4 weeks PP and still taking ibuprofen for the discomfort, but I only get really uncomfortable from lugging around my 24lb toddler a lot. If I'm taking it easy/just holding the baby, I'm fine. I was on strong pain medication for the first 2 weeks and started taking ibuprofen only at about 2.5 weeks.
I have a week on you. I was prescribed Percocet and Naproxen. I didn't fill the Percocet because it has a very sleepy affect on me and I haven't taken the Naproxen in a few days. I still feel a little pain when I have been sitting or laying for a while and then I get up.
I was in a lot of pain still at 3 days PP, so just give it some time. It was on about the 5th day when I started to feel better, not 100%, but better. I have come to the conclusion that CS recovery totally sucks and I do not wish it on anyone.
I had an emergency c-section under general anesthesia on Jan 1... so we are 5 weeks out now.
The immediate pain was the worst that I had ever experienced. Then it got better with the pain meds.
I know it hurts, but you are doing yourself a favor by walking. Don't overdo it, but it helps circulation and will help you recover faster.
I was in the hospital for 5 days total, and I had to leave LO in the NICU. I was able to walk more and more every day and made it a goal to get to the NICU as much as possible to see David even after we went home. The pain was manageable enough to do this.
I remember that it really hurt to ride in the car with my MIL's incompetent driving for the first week. After that, the pain went away and it was more soreness.
It doesn't hurt now unless there is pressure on the incision area or if it gets jiggled. I'm really nervous for how its going to feel to start having sex again... but in general it doesn't bother me too much. I just take life one step at a time and rest when I feel tired.
