TTC after 35

1st RE Appt update

I'm bumping from my phone so please excuse typos. We had our initial consult with the RE yesterday. I was super nervous! it went well though. They are retesting everything b/c he thinks its possible the cyst I had (and removal of) could impact my hormone levels. My thyroid is normal for the general population but borderline low for fertility purposes - so I will prob go on a thyroid medication. They require a mammogram, so I need to get that done asap. MH will drop off a sample to keep on hand as frozen back-up since he travels so much. I'm also doing the genetic testing this cycle. Next cycle we'll start with 50mg of Clomid and an IUI. No shocker there - we knew that would be the recommendation but I'm still a little freaked out. I guess b/c its all so new still. One thing I'm unclear on - I need to do a baseline u/s (which will include Antral Follicle Count.) They said I can coincide that with my day 5 u/s at the start of my Clomid cycle. Is there any benefit to doing the baseline u/s separately -ahead of time? Just curious. Anyway, I hope this all come thru legibly. Hope you are all having a Great weekend! I will be online later to read everyone else's updates.

How exciting to see some action, huh? I bet it's overwhelming and scary but at the same time, exciting.

  • Glad to hear everything went it. I think it is totally normal to be a little freaked out at starting procedures. It's not how it was "supposed" to be but it's the cards we have been dealt, right?  I am also doing clomid and IUI but I have an ovidrel trigger. Do you have that?  I am doing 100mg of clomid(assuming it is higher since my eggs may "hard to stimulate" with the elevated FSH).  I am having the baseline u/s on CD3(can't wait to see what my AFC is considering the FSH issue) but I am also starting clomid later that same day (Day 3) because I ovulate on CD12.  Doing the u/s on CD5 to see the AFC seems OK to me as you won't have the clomid in your system yet.  If for some reason you normally O early, I'd ask to start the clomid/ultrasound on day 3. Good luck!!

  • Thanks guys! Appreciate the support and feedback. I O so late, that is probably why they are starting on cd5. I'm not using a trigger this cycle but will ask about it. It will be really interesting to see the cd12-14 u/s after Clomid to see if it helps me O earlier. Good luck to you both too!
