It was definitely one of those, "what the hell have i gotten myself into?" moments :-) Excited about the whole process but yowzers.... Here's to 'no pain, no gain!'
it's all true...sorry. but, when you're holding that precious newborn, it's all worth it.
The only thing I think she forgot to mention is the burning from the stitches once you get home for a day or two, but then it goes away. It's so spot on unfortionately, but only about a week in the lifetime you'll have with your baby. And this will be my third time doing it, so it can't be that bad,,,right.

1. The peri bottle is AWESOME. I think I'd still be using mine if I thought my husband wouldn't totally make fun of me. A little squirt of water and a nice pat with the TP makes for a very clean feeling vag. Just sayin' (also, the water really does feel good on a sore vag, but I preferred cold to warm)
2. Don't use baby wipes when you #2. They sting. If you do, rinse them out really well. I just used my peri bottle. A little creative bending and you'll be clean as a whistle. I swear
3. Stool softeners make that first #2 WAY less scary. Be religious with them.
4.Those little donut pillows are really nice to sit on even if you don't get the hemmies
5. Vaginal birth isn't THAT bad. Its a little disconcerting after you do it the first time, but really, its nothing to worry about. I felt decent after my first and really, really good after my second.
DISLIKE! lol, reading this type of stuff scares the living daylights out of me. i am a birthing coward. i have decided that i wont read about this stuff till the 3rd tri so i dont give myself an anxiety attack every 2 minutes. actually, it didnt seem all that bad except for the part about pooping. why must pooping be so complicated by pregnancy? not fair! lol.
It's times like these I'm so glad I have a gestational carrier!! Sorry ladies
makes me respect women who are carriers EVEN more. I mean, they put their bodies through a lot to commit to an act of love for another woman. bravo to carriers!
Second.. Mrs. Case-- DITTO!!! I have no idea why my hiney is so involved.. but I am living with Ulcerative Colitis so fortunately I already have a giant stash of benefiber. I highly recommend the chewable, but I also recommend not eating the orange ones, yuck!

i just finished reading, that is so spot on i could have written it myself! definitely worth it in the end, and everybody will have a different experience. i tore pretty badly and had HORRIBLE hemroids, so i was pretty uncomfortable for quite a while
OMG ladies; you're scaring the crap out of me...I dont think I want to read it after all that! LMAO
Out of curiosity...how far along do the hemmies typically start to show up?? I'm SO afraid of getting them, and so far so good; but then I think that it's also possible that it's too early for me to have anything, and I start to worry again! lol

I never got them with either of my other pregnancies or deliveries, so there is hope. Of course, I probably just jinxed myself with this I know a lot of people that only got them with delivery too.

i got mine sometime during my last pregnancy, and it makes me grossed out to say that they've never gone away so i know it's going to be so much worse this time

Oh I've heard of women getting them so bad that they end up requiring surgery to remove them...*that* is what I'm the most afraid of... but I've never had them before in my life, so I wouldnt even know the first thing to tell if they're even there! lol

yeah, i have wondered about getting them removed surgically but it grosses me out and i'm scared to actually go to the doctor about it, kwim lol.
and you will know when you get them, i promise! although i hope you're one of the lucky ones that doesn't
I tore from the birth and the catheter, so it stung BAD, for 2 weeks. That peri bottle, as well as the dermoplast spray, was my BEST FRIEND!
My tips:
Don't wear your own underwear unless you're OK with throwing them away. The mesh ones are perdy comfy anyways.
ice pack. ice pack. ice pack. That was my savior while still in the hospital. Not the ice packs in the gloves- holy uncomfortable. But the hospital would take a newborn diaper, take out the innards, stuff it with ice and have you use that. AWESOMENESS!
Try to avoid having anyone in the room except for DH after birth and for the first trip tot he potty, it's a bloody mess, literally.
Yikes, but yet comforting that I know before hand! Over on Money Matters a while ago there was a loooong post about birth experiences that was similar to this!
LOL, at all the replies. Don't you ladies love that they tell you all this only AFTER you're already pregnant?! Seriously though, it isn't that bad.
1. Peri bottle and Tucks pads are your best friends.
2. If you tear and require stitches, you'll be in some pain for a week or two but it is not excruciating. The only time I really really hurt from my tear was when I overdid it and did too much walking or activity during the day, and then I'd be pretty sore at night. But I just learned to take it easy.
3. Not everybody gets hemorrhoids. I didn't get a single one during pregnancy and I only got one from delivery and it was pretty mild.
4. Your vagina will not be ruined by childbirth. Things do eventually go back to their un-stretched size.
5. As the other ladies said, TOTALLY worth it I mean, look at all of us who knew what we were getting into this time and decided to do it again anyway!

A huge "i'm sorry" to the ladies i grossed out! I know we're a long way from all of this but i'm trying to get myself mentally prepared for all the things that are going to happen - AAAANNNDD i'm SO glad that we have previous moms on this board to tell us that we'll make it through and to give us some tips!
Haha... unfortunately most of that is so true. I don't remember going to the bathroom as that painful, just really really gross.
Another thing they don't mention is that while in the hospital you have to pee into a measured bowl/cup type thing and then tell the nurse how much you filled the bowl. And things are very bloody. ugh.
I remember the first time I went to the bathroom after childbirth I thought instantly of Michelle Duggar.. and wondered why anyone would want to give birth that many times!

for those of you getting scared reading that--it's not written in stone that it will be like that. I had no issues whatsoever with uriniating/bowel movements (I had no epidural though, so that may have played a part in it). In fact, I had such ACTIVE bowels, that the 1st time I had to poop after labor (the next morning) I almost didn't make it. I asked for stool softner but ended up not taking it.
I was sore though, but more like a bruised feeling. Those witch hazel pads are a godsend for that.

I didn't have to do that--what was their reason for it? To see if you were drinking enough?

Totally agree with eesome about the stool softeners! That first #2 was faaar worse for me than any pain related to my c/s. I made the mistake of not taking any stool softeners though. I thought since I didn't have a vag delivery it wouldn't be a big deal. This time I will start taking them as soon as I can in preparation. It was about a week after I got home though, so if you think about it, that had been about 9 days without pooping. TMI, but I finally understood that crazy expression "$hi++ing a brick".
I also got hemmies my 1st pg that haven't gone away. I never felt like I was straining or anything, so I have no idea really how I got them, but it sux that they're apparently there for life.

I had to do this too the first few times I peed. It was just a plastic cup that fits under the toilet seat, so it catches your pee. They told me I had to pee a certain amount before they would remove the IV. I guess to make sure you're hydrated & everything's flowing through ok. After I peed, I'd buzz the nurses station & they came in & wrote down how many millileters/oz/whatever I'd peed. They took care of dumping the cup & everything. I think two pee trips got me to whatever limit I needed.
Also, I remember after a c/s you will never be so happy to have gas. You can't eat until you pass gas. I cried when it happened I was so hungry.
also, when I went to the bathroom for the first time they sent a nurse's aide with me and I kept thinking, they don't pay this lady nearly enough. She helped me cleaned all of the lady bits.
This is awesome and moment by moment, day by day SO TRUE! So sorry! I had 80 stitches - cut front to back and no I did not have a c-section. I was minutes away from one and just told them to go for it at that point.
Almost 3 years later I have forgotten most of it and am doing it again.... so it cannot be that bad right

It really did make me want to throw up! My stomach is turning now!!! AHHHHHHHHHH
She forgot to mention c-sections.
For those of us who unfortunately have to have unplanned c-sections, it is no picnic.
Every time you roll out of bed, bend forward, or try to pick up your child, the pain is pretty excruciating.
I'm not even going to talk to you about the first bowel movement. Let's just say it felt like natural childbirth.
Okay...I'm done scaring people now. lol
Everything is exactly correct but as PP said, it is only a short time and worth it when you look that sweet baby in the eyes.
I have a couple thoughts
1. The peri bottle is AWESOME. I think I'd still be using mine if I thought my husband wouldn't totally make fun of me.
