Air Force Honor Guard -- any info?

So my DH just got word that he will be starting Honor Guard. I know that they perform at funerals and such but beyond that, I know nothing about it and am just looking to get any information that I can.

What kind of hours do they work? Weekends?

When they travel for a funeral or ceremony, how long are they usually gone for?

Any other information is much appreciated!

TIA!

Re: Air Force Honor Guard -- any info?

  • I am in charge of one of the largest AF Honor Guards, so I can answer your question. They can and do work weekends and long hours. It depends how big their area of responsibility is, which determines how far they travel and if they have to stay overnight.  Also, some HGs are not as busy as others.  We get two to five funerals a day because of where we are; some get less than one a week.  Your hubby should talk to the HG NCOIC to find out what is typical. Also, they perform at ceremonies on base, but those are only a couple hours at a time.  It's a very honorable, important job, so good on him for volunteering!
