How do you put your LO down for a nap?

It seems like everyone has their own "method". What do you do to get your LO to nap?

  • Rock her in the bathroom with the fan on & give her her pacifier. If I time it right, she's out within minutes!

If she's extra cranky, over tired, etc I have to turn on the shower too. She loves the white noise.

We don't swaddle and haven't for weeks.

  • Swaddle, turn off lights, white noise, rock to sleep in rocking chair and lay him in his crib.  He takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes to fall asleep and he'll stay out anywhere from 40 min. to 3 hours!  I'd like to eventually get to the point where we can put him down drowsy but still awake, but we will work on that after we master it at night!

  • I wrap her up in a blanket, turn on her FP muic player/projector and rock her untill drowsy. She then gets put in her crib and falls asleep on her own.

  • Wow - I might want to start to get a method. I just put him in the pack n play in the middle of the living room when he falls asleep/gets drowsy. I swaddle him most times. I don't have a method - maybe he'd sleep longer if I did! He'll sleep for like an hour at a time.
  • We still just let her sleep wherever she falls asleep (bouncy seat, co-sleeper, in our arms, etc) Once she's about a month old we'll start naps in her crib or co-sleeper and we'll put her down drowsy but awake after a nursing session. DD1 was (and still is) a pretty bad sleeper so we're going to try to get dd2 into a better routine sooner.
  • If he falls asleep in the swing or vibrating seat we leave him for naps.  If he falls asleep in our arms we put him in the bassinet.

  •  I just plop her in the swing when she seems tired and put her paci in...sometimes if she is having difficulty I put her in the bathroom with the fan...or if my older one is napping I hold her. I am trying to get her used to napping amidst the noise because my 2 yr old isn't getting any quieter. :)
  • DS naps at least once a day in his swing - put him in there when he gets cranky, give him a paci, turn the swing on and also his sleep sheep.

When he naps in the crib, what has worked for us the last 2 days is swaddling him, giving him a paci and putting him down wide awake with the sleep sheep. He's put himself to sleep both days - but I did it before he got overtired and fussy. Otherwise, I would have rocked him and put him down (but then sometimes he wakes up when his head hits the mattress!)

  • Swaddle, music, and say "goodnight". I don't rock or feed or have him cry to sleep.

  • We are lucky and have a pretty easy baby when it comes to sleeping and napping.  She usually just likes her pacifier and she will put herself to sleep.  She does also like the swing or falling asleep on your chest. We don't really have to 'try' to put her to sleep.

  • First sleep sign while playing I bring him to his room, diaper, read a bit, put down drowsy not asleep.  He will look at his mobile until asleep.  Sometimes he wants a paci sometimes not.
