Biting while nursing & sippy intro correlation?

DD has never bitten me while nursing until the past few days. Last night she bit several times on one side (the side that is slower to let down) and then nursed fine on the side that is always easier...I've started giving her a sippy more often and I think she has to bite on the spout to get anything out. Has anyone else noticed this connection?

  • Is she teething? We had more biting problems when LO was teething really badly. I just made sure to um shove in really far..lol since they can't suck and bite at the same time. We did have some biting after we introduced sippy, but he was teething too so IDK?? I feel your pain though Indifferent

  • It is likely teething related, BUT if she has to BITE the sippy to get anything she may be correlating that.

If it were me I'd find a new sippy ( we use straw sippy's)

What do you do when she bites?

Can you offer the easier side first? That way she won't be starving and waiting for the let down.

Yeah, I'm not giving her any more cups that require biting. I think it's a mixed message. I haven't reacted purposefully, just impulsively saying "OUCH!" or wincing and she's cried each time. I asked a LC I know who said to hug her in close so that she needs to open her mouth, but I haven't had the forethought to do it.
  • My kid bites on anything and everything EXCEPT my boobs.  She only bit once and that was after she was done eating and she was just experimenting.  I jumped and she cried, so I doubt she'll be doing again soon.

However, she doesn't take a sippy too well.  We've been giving it for months and I know she can do it, but she just rarely does.  She prefers to drink from a regular cup.
